Topa Ra’a — Restaurant in Easter Island

Unsanitary place and very rude staff.

The restaurant allows for stray dogs inside their premises (dogs that feed off garbage outside on the streets and are surely not vaccinated against serious transferable diseases). These dogs come sit next to customers and sniff your food while you are trying to have your meal. We had to constantly keep them from eating our food.

The staff does not remove these dogs from their premises despite several requests for doing so.

Instead, the staff reacted in an extremely rude way when we, as customers, tried to remove the dogs ourselves by simply spraying some tap water on them. In fact, the staff was very disrespectful to our group.

Management never showed up to deal with the situation. It was totally absent.

In sum, unless you like eating an expensive meal while being harassed by unsanitary stray dogs and treated very poorly by restaurant staff, I wouldn't recommend this restaurant to anyone. There are plenty of much better alternatives...

Food: Ok. Not wooooow, but ok. Price: Around 17.000 CLP per meal, which is quite expected for Rapa Nui restaurants. You can find cheaper ceviche in some other places.

Big minus: They are allowing people to smoke cigarettes. It certainly ruined our experience. You see open air restaurant, with fresh air around, you sit down to eat, and then - haaah, people around you smoke and you are inhaling that instead of fresh air. Service 3* because the lady didn’t ask guests on the table nearby if they could stop smoking while eating.

Second minus is that they couldn’t share WiFi...

Exceptional local restaurant and bar (the name means sunset). It was fun to watch so many locals spend a Wednesday night (sometimes with young children on the swing set or trampoline) for hours, greeting each other and socializing. We had three rounds of drinks, all good but slow in making. The pizza had crispy crust, was large and delicious. The fried shrimp was hot and good.
