I was reluctant to try Baco given the bad reviews re acceptable attire and dress code. I’ve dined at casual “hole In the wall” places to fine dining establishments around the world, so I’ve seen it all. And I generally dress well, but admittedly, I was a bit put off by the impression (via reviews) that Baco was pretentious or exclusionary.
My experience was anything but that. A solid five stars for this place.
I was on my own so I opted to sit at the bar where I received great service. My server, Renni, was outstanding—attentive and quick to deliver great service.
Attire didn’t seem to be an issue. In the States, this would be considered “upscale casual” — basically anything goes as long as you don’t look like you just walked in from the beach. Seems reasonable to me.
The place was bustling. Everyone seemed to be having a great time, servers buzzing through the place to tend to their tables. Food was great. I ordered the fish broth and then the seafood pappardelle. The broth/soup was amazing. Both wines I had were also great.
I’ve been to a handful of places in Santiago and this was easily among the top two. Would definitely come back. Highly recommend if you’re looking for an upscale place to have a...
Read moreThe only bad experience we had in Santiago. This restaurant is completely racist and does not want foreign visitors. Upon arrival, there is a sign declaring that they do not have wifi. They refuse to provide a physical menu (even though they have them), so if you are international you can not access a menu. They have a dress code that only applies to foreigners as well. We were told we could not wear out nice hats on the outside patio because it violated the “dress code”, yet Chilean guests were wearing crop tops, workout gear, flip flops, etc. We were the only people dressed nicely in the whole restaurant but were told we were a dress code problem. The staff laughed at us and belittled us in spanish (which we fully understood) so we got up and left. It was a horrible experience. DO NOT attempt to eat here- Santiago is such a lovely city and so are Chilean people. The racist, immature and unprofessional staff of this restaurant do not deserve to destroy...
Read moreIf you want to go to one place to explore variety of best Chilean wines complimented by great food and then buy a few bottles to take home I recommend Baco the best. My wife and I explored 4 wine bars/restaurants from the most recommended on the internet and had the best wine tasting experience at Baco. Baco has some unique and iconic wines both by glass and by bottle not found in other wine bars/restaurants. Wine list may not be the biggest but we found the bottles to buy to take home competitively priced compared to specialized wine stores, both in the restaurant and in Baco wine store a few steps away. The service is to the point and very attentive and prompt. The servers knew their wines very well. Works well if you have an hour for lunch or light dinner and have other plans. We ate twice there and then stopped by to buy wines to bring home. Food was great, on par with a few other places with amazing food we found...
