Barros Restaurante — Restaurant in San Pedro de Atacama

The food is superb. Huge portions and cheaper than most places in San Pedro. The rustic decor and electric atmosphere also makes this place a unique experience. There is often live music. If you want a quiet romantic dinner don't go here. Maybe a a very loud romantic dinner. I went twice and the service is okay, but nothing special. A little slow, and as a group of six, two of us only got our food when the other four had nearly finished, but I'll put that down to them being super busy. When we were paying we were kind of hounded for a tip by the cashier. Because of the slow, slightly grumpy service, we offered 5%, but the guy didn't like it, so we left nothing. I'm sorry, but the price is the price and tipping is optional. If you want more money, raise the price on the menu, don't argue with a customer about tips. All this aside, it was still good and everyone should definitely go here at least...

Nice general atmosphere, a wood burning fire put always adds a bit of charm.

The food is quite bad, think fast food, sauces come in plastic takeout containers.

We ordered the Tabla del Mar for a sampling of seafood and the Chorrillana carnivore.

The seafood platter came with fried calamari (rubbery), salmon ceviche (odd, slimy texture and too sour), shrimp empanadas (flavorless filling) and a shrimp in some aji ajillo sauce (sauce again was odd tasting and too acidic).

The Chorrillana was massive but a mess. Just a smattering of meats, some sauted onions and a bed of fries.

Genuinely don't understand the rating...

We waited 40 minutes for the food to arrive (we ordered burgers so it shouldn't even have taken that long). We wanted to cancel the last dish but they said we couldn't because it was already being made.

So we then asked to takeaway the last dish while we paid the bill.

We paid for the bill and then they told us it was another 10 minutes for the chicken dish to cook for takeaway which was outrageous. The chicken was thin strips of chicken which would take less than 5 minutes to cook. They clearly forgot to make the dish, and lied about it "being made" when we wanted to cancel.
