I have been a regular customer at the Osaka restaurant in Santiago and each and everytime I have left the restaurant as a very happy customer.
Yesterday for the first time the service was extremely bad. It started with the first point of contact, the hostess at the desk for some unknown reason did not want to give us a seat on the terrace even after having reserved in advance. Her reason was ''We are fully booked outside'' which wasn't the case really... because after insisting she managed to find us a table outside.
Then come our waiter Juan Carlos who started very well by introducing himself and gave us time to settle in, to look at the menu and within 5 minutes he brought us an amuse bouche, which was very good. So far so good.
He then disappeared (still being around waiting on other few tables and joking around with his colleagues on the terrace) for nearly 45 minutes and we were left there sitting and waiting for our order to be taken. We had to wave to another waiter who finally called Juan Carlos to come to our table.
Eventually when he did decide to re-appear, we started to place our order and ordered a bottle of wine and a cocktail (which came after the wine). We ordered 2 starters to share and 4 mains. While ordering Juan Carlos wasn't paying attention at all, we had to repeat more than once our order because he was distracted...
We received 1 starter and 2 mains, then came the second starter with 1 more main dish and the 4th main never arrived... After waiting for another 15 minutes more for the 4th dish to arrive we told our waiter that we would like to cancel it, given that we all have eaten our food already. His reply was "I will check with the kitchen, as it is their fault for not preparing the food on time" He came back to say that the 4th main never got prepared and that it will not be appearing on the bill. Finally, we decided to order 2 more cocktails and even this got messed up, as we received 1 that we asked for and the other one a totally different one from what we ordered. We brought it to his attention and he replied "sorry I made a mistake" which I totally understand that we can all make mistakes but when it becomes one mistake after another, you started to question the ability of the person serving you.
I have seen this restaurant being FULL to the maximum and yet the service has always been IMPECCABLE but yesterday not being full with customers and yet the service not being good at all.
We were the last customers to leave the terrace and it was never full, there were several free tables on both smoking and non-smoking side.
I wanted to send an email directly to Osaka restaurant but unfortunately this option wasn't available on their website which left me with no choice but to...
Read moreAn amazing Nikkei dining experience! The dishes were unique and far from the usual—each one had an original and adventurous flavor profile, with fresh ingredients and beautiful presentation.
We ordered:
Chanchito Nikkei (seasonal): This dish came served in a small frying pan and included rice, maduros, bacon and pork. When the waiter served it, he added a type of vinegar that gave the dish a bittersweet kick.
Pisco Ribs: The ribs were fantastic—tender, flavorful, and perfectly balanced with a hint of sweetness. I absolutely loved them.
One interesting thing the waiter mentioned was that the dishes are meant to be shared, which I loved because I always share meals with my partner.
For drinks:
Momo del Sur, Ginger Mojito, and Banana Ebizu (I’m not 100% sure of the name, but it’s the one with banana). I really recommend the Banana Ebizu—it was so unique, and I loved the creative touch of the banana slice topped with white chocolate.
Dessert:
Amai Toast: I’m not usually a fan of bread with ice cream, especially ice cream cheese 😂, but this dessert blew me away! The flavors were perfectly balanced, and I couldn’t get enough of it.
The ambiance of the restaurant is chic and sophisticated, and the service was top-notch. My only small complaint was that the dessert took a bit longer to arrive, but the waiter was kind enough to apologize.
All in all, an incredible experience. I’ll...
Read moreWe came here for dinner as a group of four, and it was hands down one of the best meals we’ve had in Santiago. From start to finish, everything was exceptional — the ambiance was stylish yet comfortable, and the service was attentive without being intrusive.
We ordered a variety of dishes to share, starting with the ceviche sampler, which offered a fantastic range of flavors — fresh, zesty, and beautifully plated. The passion shrimp was a crowd favorite: crispy, juicy, with a sweet-spicy sauce that had just the right amount of kick. We also loved the rice dish served with seaweed crisps, which was creamy, flavorful, and fun to eat.
Another standout was the octopus tiradito served over ice — so fresh and tender, it practically melted in our mouths. The spicy salmon tartare bites were addictive, and the glazed short ribs were fall-off-the-bone tender with a rich, bold sauce that paired perfectly with the rest of the meal.
Every plate was crafted with attention to detail — bold yet balanced flavors, top-quality ingredients, and creative presentation. We didn’t feel rushed at all and really appreciated the relaxed pace of the meal.
Overall, a 10/10 dining experience. If you’re in Santiago and enjoy Nikkei cuisine or just want to try something special, this...
