Tourist trap! Our local family members introduced us to DongJiang Seafood Restaurant, promising a unique dining experience. The restaurant itself is impressive, spanning five floors with live seafood tanks and many private rooms. We personally selected a king crab from Russia, along with shrimp, fish, and clams. However, what followed was a frustrating and disappointing experience.
Despite handpicking our live king crab, the kitchen swapped it for a dead one. One of our family members, who is a live seafood manager, immediately recognized the unfresh taste. After much back and forth, even the manager admitted the issue and eventually replaced it—but the dishonesty was concerning. Tourists, beware when ordering king crab!
The food itself was underwhelming. The shrimp dish was overly seasoned, and the duck was excessively oily and fatty. On top of that, the service was abysmal (1/5). Even with two assigned waiters in our private room, they were hardly around to refill tea or change plates.
Overall, I would not recommend this restaurant. While the setup is impressive, the dishonest practices, poor service, and subpar food make it a tourist trap. There are far better seafood options...
Read moreVisited Dongjiang Seafood Restaurant as a friend and I was visiting Guangzhou. Firstly the place is very big, it looked like there were different sections for various groups (weddings, business groups, families etc). We choose nearest to the window openings because there was a nice view of the river. There is a large section of live seafood where you can choose what you want and how it to be cooked. The seafood tanks were huge and everything looked fresh. Food wise it was alright, not the best I had but still pretty good. I think the place is more about the experience than anything else. Staff can't speak English so it definitely helps if you have a friend / guide that can assist in the...
Read moreThe seafood is about as fresh as you can get. No one speaks English but you can get by with pointing and using a translation app. You pick what you want from the tanks and choose how you want it prepared - steamed, sautéed, deep fried, etc. It can get pretty spendy if you go for the high end or exotic seafood and they have a lot of massive lobsters, geoduck, fish, etc. Interior is a bit dated and service is a bit slow during...
