It was raining quite heavily and so me and my friend decided to find a place to eat we opted for hotpot. Having searched all around we came across a place on the 1st floor of a small quiet plaza and decided to try it. There were a few tables already seated upon peeping inside.

We was shown to our table and my was the decoration grand and quite unique for a hotpot place with old chinese antique tables and chairs.

We looked at the menu and decided on a few choices:

First we ordered the soup base 同治天麻川芎藥膳魚頭鍋 (fish soup with herbs) which was supposed to be good for circulation and for relieving headaches. When it came it was served in a large container with 2 dragon head figures on either end, the soup was bubbling and all misty since I believe they put some dried ice into it. Once it cleared you can clearly see the different variety of ingredients inside which was of decent portion including the fish.

Handmade Assorted Balls 滾得囍宮廷手打丸拼盤

We chose this option as we wanted to try all the different flavours and this mean’t that we each could try one (10 balls in total, 5 flavours). The balls were very fresh and succulent and you could taste that it was handmade and not prepacked. Out of all of them I really enjoyed the truffle flavour (grey) the most as it was something different and I thought it was the best flavour followed second by the beef one(red), spinach one (green), squid (white), then lastly the leng yu (fish) one (grey closest to the white). If you don’t want to order assorted balls then you can order them seperately in one flavour (8 balls)

Half cooked Beef tendon slice半熟牛肋片

This is probably the dish I would not order again, nothing wrong with it but nothing great about it. Bland in taste and just seems like some boiled pieces of beef with bits of fat in it. Plenty of stuff to order from the menu and I feel like wasted stomach space on this.

Osmanthus Mussels 桂花蚌

Quite fresh and good value for money. Just need to dip it in the soup for like 10 seconds and then into some soy sauce and garlic condiment and it is ready to eat.

Dried Scallop Paste 瑤柱乾貝滑

It came in 2 long scoop container with a wooden spatula so you can scoop it into the soup. You can make it small in size or large. I think small bite size is best as it doesn’t take too long to cook. The taste is similar to the squid balls with more of prawn taste to it, not sure why it is called this name.

We didn’t order too much food as we weren’t too hungry, however this place really hit the spot and feels like a hidden secret with it being on the 1st floor inside a plaza where nearly all the shops were already closed. I thoroughly enjoyed eating here, the food was fresh, decoration and atmosphere was great and the menu was vast and full of choices. I think I will be back to try the other choices on the menu in the near future especially the geoduck and the Japanese beef selections.
