Nongenji Hunan Cuisine (North Point)

Weeknight dinner, Hunan cuisine in contemporary setting. This is a newly opened chain restaurant from May 2024 as part of several others across HK, and part of a wider international network. Quite spacious inside so it was no issue getting a table. Very good food quality (especially garlic shrimp glass noodles, steamed egg, stir-fried peppers with abalone and pork). Quite filling and had some to spare in takeout box. User-friendly QR code ordering system; plenty of staff who keeping things running; clean and bright interior (sometimes too bright); buzzing vibe; each table with its own tea, cutlery, tissue, etc. Suitable for large groups and couples alike. We even spotted a few solo diners enjoying a dish with rice in solitude. This restaurant seems symbolic of a new time: contemporary, good-quality mainland chain store entering Hong Kong market, and faring quite well due to quality food, competitive pricing, nice service. Seems to cater to customers from various backgrounds: local (from surrounding neighbourhood), mainland (presumably working here based on business attire), international tourists (from nearby hotels). I really like this place. Like, irrationally, I really like it.

It's reasonably priced for this area. The food is top notch, proper enriched! Spiciness level is just right for HK. The 'less' spicy option was tingly - just right. Normally, 'less' spicy just ends up being blurg.

Had great fun here with wife and friends.

My only complaint is that an order of peanuts set us back HK$26, but we were super hungry so meh. The rest of the food was...

Authentic Hunan cuisine. Liked the stir-fried tender beef and pepper the most ! Chicken pot also outstanding. Vegetables and chilli peppers used felt really fresh.
