Michelin starred🌟 Indian restaurant

A well deserved star... taste-wise. I was certainly curious about the food at this Indian Restaurant that is 🌟Michelin starred🌟:...i.e. how different it would be from other Indian restaurants that aspire to be Michelin rated but are not quite there yet. It is featured in the Michelin guide for 2017.

As soon as you enter the restaurant, you can smell the nice and complex aromas & flavors coming from the kitchen😋While this has a nice affect on the appetite...I guess they don’t intentionally spread the kitchen’s aromas in the seating area ... it just happens by chance 😁😁But if intentional, then I’d say it’s a good strategy.

The SEATING consists of small tables BUT there is enough space so you can have your conversations.... whilst undisturbed by other people’s conversations (unless they are really yelling about Donald Trump, Taxes, etc.🤪) The seating and ambience are rather simplistic...no fancy Indian arts or designer furnitures.... but it’s comfortable. Besides, WHAT REALLY MATTERS is the food!

The MANGO LASSI has a slight TWIST about it (maybe it’s more common than I think but I certainly haven’t seen this twist in other restaurants)...it had a small amount of red-colored concentrated squash (made from rose, lotus, lily, raisins and some fruit-extracts). Its red colored traces are clearly visible in the orange colored lassi immediately when it’s served ....BUT the red color DISAPPEARS quickly if you stir even a little bit. Anyway, The resulting taste is ACES IN MY BOOK 👌🏻😍. Quantity of the drink is probably a bit smaller for the price of $38.... so, the quantity could be increased a bit... me thinks🤔 .

The FISH TIKKA appetizer IS ONE OF THE BEST I’ve had anywhere so far. 😋It was served on a sizzling platter and mixed with the usual stir fried cabbage/onion. The portion size is good (normally one might expect smaller portions from a Michelin starred restaurant .... BUT NOT HERE!🤪). Next time I might just order 2-3 portions of this appetizer and forget about the mains 😉

Among the mains, CHICKEN CURRY (KADAI version) was also a standout. When you order Chicken Curry, they ask you which TYPE you’d like - e.g. Kadai, Vindaloo, Korma, Jal-Frezi, Masala, etc. The KADAI CHICKEN CURRY had great flavors and was STRONGLY spicy😅. So, if you don’t want it too spicy, then mention whilst ordering the Kadai version.

The VEGETABLE CURRY was another tasty choice 😋. Pretty much all garden vegetables competing with each other in a slightly tomatoey gravy.... simple ingredients transformed into something so tasty!😃

BREADS- Kashmiri NAAN was basically a naan with an inner layer of red-colored sweet paste. Normally, I don’t like the naan to have anything sweet inside it.... BUT THIS ONE WENT GREAT WITH THE SPICY KADAI CHICKEN👍🏻, and even with the moderately spicy Veg Curry:👍🏻

To summarize, this place with a rather simplistic ambience, justifies its Michelin star based on the TASTE and ATTENTIVE SERVICE. It has branches in SAI YING PUN and QUARRY BAY and I hope to...

This is one of the top rated Michelin star indian restaurant in Hong Kong.

I went to this restaurant with my husband and son, the restaurant is small, they offered me a banquette seat because I have a kid with me, service is great. We have no ideas what to order, the waiter introduce what options they have and try to understand what we are our perference. This restaurant is operated by Indian, food are authentic and taste really nice.

These were what we orderes

For STARTER: samosa- its a bit dry but not bad. The chicken is really nice.

MAIN COURSE: lamb curry x chicken korma & potato cauliflowe r- lamb is always my favourite, amazing seasoning, simple ingredients transformed into something so tasty, good to pair with rice or dip with naan. * if you don’t want it too spicy, then mention whilst ordering the Kadai version.

BREAD: plain & garlic naan Plain is good enough but Garlic can make me keep on eating....

DRINK: mango lassi What I would usually order in Indian restaurant, mango flavour with yogurt.

EXTRA: Beef Masala

Overall, great service great food, I definetly...

I ordered the chicken tikka, potato naan, and two types of curry namely butter chicken and a potato tomato curry.

Chicken Tikka: The flavor was solid, smoky and well-marinated but the portion size was noticeably smaller compared to other Indian spots in Hong Kong.

Potato Naan: Now this was a pleasant surprise. Potato naan isn’t commonly found in Hong Kong. Soft, slightly crisp on the edges and filled with spiced mashed potato.

Butter Chicken Curry: Rich and creamy with a pronounced sweetness. It’s perfect for those who enjoy a milder, dessert-like curry.

Potato and Tomato Curry: This one packed a punch with strong cumin notes dominating the flavor profile.

One of the most pleasant surprises was the environment. The restaurant feels relaxed and welcoming, with a calm vibe that makes it easy to unwind. Conveniently located just a few minutes away from the mtr station, we tried this restaurant that was Michelin guide recommended. I tried kashmiri naan for the first time! This naan is a stuffed with coconut, nuts and mixed fruits giving an overall sweet tone. I quite liked it that I’d even think it’s a dessert on its own! 😋 for the curries we had the classic butter chicken which I was pleasantly surprised by how the chicken was piping hot, making it even more delicious than usual 🤤 We also tried prawn korma which is a cream based sauce with nuts and paalak paneer. Out of the 3 I liked prawn korma the most as I liked the gentle sweet flavours and smoother texture of the sauce. For drinks we had mango lassi and masala tea, its masala tea really packs a punch and so recommend for those who really likes the spiced teas 😆

Tulsi has a wide range of classic Indian dishes that will suit most tastes - from meat eaters to vegetarians, spice lovers to those who don't do spicy. Service was prompt and staff were welcoming and friendly. Some reviews said that the portions were small, but in my opinion they were pretty normal. I ate solo, though, so that probably had an effect on the perception of how much food there was. The samosa chaat, paratha, and kulfi were all very nice. The malai kofta seemed a bit too chewy, but maybe that's the way it's supposed to be. Prices were high in comparison with similar Indian restaurants, so I'm thankful I was able to use an eatigo discount.
