A Claypot Rice that Worth the Wait We have been wanting to try this claypot rice in Kennedy Town for so long and we finally got the chance. Upon arrival, make sure you go inside to get a number first. We noticed that if you come in 2, the line is much faster. They are also selling dim sum and other side dishes. We recommend you to order them as the claypot rice takes a while to cook. The dim sum taste good and portion wise it’s huge. When the har gao arrived, we were so surprised at the size! The shrimps are sweet and the skin is not too thick. Siu mai is also good! Could really taste the meat and less of the flour. The size is huge like the har gao. However, we are a bit dissapointed at the skin of the har gao and the siu mai as they are too soft and fragile. Fried squid is so soft and the texture of the crispiness is like cornstarch coated. It’s salty, peppery and sweet and the same time. They have vinegar sauce as the dipping. The claypot rice is amazing. So far this is the best one among other claypot rice that we had. The chicken and eel claypot rice is so good! It’s fragrant and love the crispy rice at the bottom! It’s very crispy like a cracker and not hard. The eel is chewy, smooth, and soft. Chicken is also very smooth and not dry. The pork ribs with chinese sausage is a must order. The chinese sausage is sweet and makes the entire dish so fragrant. The pork ribs is so tender and flavourful. 🍽️ Har Gao (蝦餃) 🍽️ Siu Mai (鮮蝦燒賣皇) 🍽️ Salt and Pepper Squid (椒鹽鮮魷) 🍽️ Eel and Chicken Claypot Rice (白鱔滑雞煲仔飯) 🍽️ Chinese Sausage Pork Ribs Claypot Rice (臘味排骨煲仔飯)

So, second night of jetlag and couldn't sleep again. And I was looking around in area if there are restaurant opened late night for a bite. And I found the pearl! Located in North street near Kennedy town, it's easy to find. I've tried dim sum in iconic Tim Ho Wan and Lin Heung Tea House and in my mind this is the best one. I usually order Ha Gay, Shu Me i and chi chong fun then I know will the standard of the food and technique. And Sheung Hei is the best one. I mean the texture of the shrimp in Ha Gau is simply on another level! And so much shrimp meat! Same with shu mai. Chi chong fun with shrimp, the batter of rice flour is perfect and the texture is perfect too. Just enough to provide smooth taste and pretty slinky so you can just chew once and just swallow and not even worry if you gonna be able to digest it or not. The best Chi chong fun I've had so far. The deep fried wonton are great too. Never seen that shape earlier and the filling is twice as much compared with other dim sum places. If you are a dim sum lover, this place cannot be missed and I promise you that you will.be more satisfied than if you went to Tim Ho Wan. To me, Sheung Hei so much better than Tim Ho Wan. I've seen lots of YouTube clip on about Tim Ho Wan since they are famous of being the cheapest Michelin one star restaurant, but Sheung Hei is far better! They are recommended as Bib Gourmand in Michelin guide and it's unfair in my mind. HK$ 107, it's really really cheap! They only accept cash!

Sheung Hei Claypot Rice, nestled in the gentrified neighbourhood of Kennedy Town with its Bib Gourmand recognition, and a menu boasting over 30 varieties of claypot rice, has become a pilgrimage site for claypot enthusiasts, including moi. This is our 3rd visit. The decor is unassuming—minimalist and functional, and service is curt; so you know the food has to be good! The star of the show is undoubtedly the claypot rice. The cooking method is innovative; owner Lam Wing Hong utilises a lava rock grill instead of traditional charcoal, allowing for an even heat distribution that creates a delightful crispy rice crust—hands down the best I ever had–without overcooking the ingredients. This attention to detail is evident in our Preserved Sausage & Frog Claypot Rice, where the rice is fragrant and perfectly cooked, with a satisfying crunch at the bottom reminiscent of a well-made cracker. The frog is tender and flavourful, while the rice oozes aroma of cured meats. We were also pleasantly surprised by our side order of Roast Goose that came crispy-skin, succulent and imbued with lovely fragrance of spices and herbs. All in all, a great local experience... we’ll be back.

autumn winds come, and it’s time for claypot rice. More local restaurants offer claypot rice using volcanic rocks to cook. This is one of those and they not only offer the traditional claypot rice choices, but also some surprisingly good new choices. Like the one I have chosen, golden combination. It includes all the chopped hk style sausages with loads of chopped scallions. It needs to be cooked for 15-20 minutes, and when it’s served, the waiter will stir and mixed all things together with the specially made sweet soy sauce and the rice crust. So when you eat with a small spoon, you can taste all the favour. Most importantly is the rice keep their shape, chewy and not too sticky. They offer some good local dishes too. Make sure you call for reservations and give a try! P.S I have visited this restaurant again recently and ordered more dishes. Their stir fried food are all really up to standards too! It’s really a good place for family gathering and enjoy common stir fried dishes.

The restaurant was recommended to be one of the best places to go for Claypot Rice. We (a party of 2) went on a Friday night around 7PM, and was finally seated at 8PM due to the long waiting line. Advanced booking is only accepted for large parties. Albeit the boring hour spent in waiting, the food did not disappoint. The claypot rice (we ordered the preserved pork + beef and preserved pork + chicken) was packed with strong flavors, and the rice had enough crispy crust (a drooled after trait of good claypot rice). I find the chicken too bony, and recommend those who do not like too many bones on their protein to steer off. The restaurants offer more than just claypot rice. Several other dishes that we ordered (a claypot veggie, sweet and sour chicken/prawn) were also good. The only downside: you are gonna gain a pound or two the next morning due to the heavy sodium and grease content.

Found this restaurant open 24h 7/7 in Kennedy Town by searching on google maps some places where to eat claypot specialties in HK island. The place is not that big as I expected and we had to share the table with another young couple who had already place their order. This very common in many restaurants in HK. We decided to order some dim sum, a claypot with rice and cantonese sausages and also a sweet and sour sautéed beef. The food was pretty delicious, I really enjoyed my claypot and also the sweet and sour beef, it matched perfectly with the rice. About the service I didn’t like the fact they charged us 15 hkd for the service but didn’t provide any tissues for the meal and also the kitchen it was a bit messy ( I saw it on the way to the bathroom). I will come again to try more dishes, the menu has a huge choice
