Decided to stop by after landing in Hong Kong. The restaurant does not allow luggage carts, so most people left their carts outside the dining area, which could be uncomfortably insecure, so we settled for a quick dinner. Little did we know, we just had a "quick" meal crash course for the remaining time in Hong Kong.
The restaurant boasted about their wonton noodles, so we naturally have it a try. The wontons was very tasty, deserving their reputation. The noodles, although very thin and way overcooked, still had the springy texture that is common in Hong Kong noodles. We also got the beef brisket noodles as a second dish. There were only two pieces of briskets on the entire dish, while the rest were tendons (which I personally don't mind, but gauge your expectations). As a side dish, I also ordered the pork riblets dim sum with black beans. The riblets were chunky, which I appreciated, but the meats were not tender, and the cartilage was still hard to chew.
Keep in mind that this restaurant (and many others in Hong Kong) would charge you for tea, and service was bare minimum. Just be respectful, focus on eating your meal quickly, and get back to your luggage cart to regain peace...
Read moreExcellent Wan Ton noodles, authentic , even without the dried prawn roes topping. The soup recalled me the old good days. The noodle is thin and Al Dente too. They were at Causeway before 80s, small bisto, but already fameous of Wan Ton noodle, the stir-fried rice noodle with beef and Veg, 菜遠牛河 (not the deep fried with soy bean sauce one). We often went there to enjoy those authentic hk dishes. Every time is so rush to catch up the airplane, till today, I could sit down to try again. Wondered if they will change cooking as so many Hk lazy fast foods cooking way today, and lost the authentic taste they should be. Surprisingly, it came out so umami, and still keep the excellent old way cooking. So, it made me contented before I took off. Think we often get those won ton noodles in streets ,which soup is GSM added, cost you over $40. Here you just pay a bit more to enjoy a wonderful one at the rushing airport service , so it is worth value. I will try their stir -fried dishes...
Read moreThis is not a Michelin star restaurant. They WERE, but not anymore. see my picture, only from 2009-2019. So, from 2020 until today THEY ARE NOT a Michelin star restaurant. i repeat NOT A MICHELIN STAR restaurant. When you eat the food, you will know WHY.
Their top star wonton noodle soup, the noodles has some rubbery smell, indicator of either not fresh noodles or they have been kept too long. the soup is not a chicken soup but basically artificial chicken soup and lots of MSG. the tea tastes like boiled chopped wood instead of tea leaves, and the rest of the food was not prepared properly, just salt and MSG.
and the worst of all, either the cashier or the waitress added extra item that i did not order. Fine, thanks for the lesson, in this "welcome to the jungle" moment, kind of prepare myself to get ready for China/Hong Kong, who are notorious to having lots of dishonest and cunning people.
