Became an instant HK home base! Came across this gem on Instagram and was happy to discover it’s just a short walking distance from our hotel. Spent my first night in HK on a Friday here and the vibe was so vibrant—cozy, packed with interesting people, great music, and foreigner friendly. There was a pop-up event happening featuring a Japanese artist and a guest chef from Kyushu, with really oishii dishes (Kagoshima grilled chicken and Keema Curry Rice) and drinks. Unfortunate because I heard the cocktails are amazing but because I can’t drink right now, I asked for a sober version of the “gin bitter melon and honey” with soda water. She said she was going to charge me less for it as she tapped the total into the machine, but then my credit card statement later came back with the full amount — 85 HKD for essentially a light soda is criminal. Nowadays, it’s hard to support places that don’t support a sober community as well.

I walked in, the bartender girl just stares at me in utter bewilderment. I felt so uncomfortable that I even had to say “err…can I order?”.
And at the end when I wanted to pay, they just stared at me, they are unable to say “hi, how can I help” or “what can I do for you?”.
You feel like you’re causing them a problem just by being a customer.
The staff are also very very loud, they’re having a wonderful time chatting and laughing behind the bar, not really doing much work, and spoiling any kind of relaxing atmosphere for their own...
