There are a couple of other seafood restaurants in Sai Kung but I chose this one because it got Michelin 1 star before and more cozy environment for a birthday celebration. My second time here after 7 years!
I really craved for giant mantis shrimps for celebration so on top of the set menu for 2 ($1098), we added two more giant mantis shrimps and two razor clams.
The entree of the set dinner menu for two starts with this plate cucumber in garlic and soy sauce. Very crunchy and appetising. 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
Then this signature fried tofu. Simple but very delicious! Must-eat. 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
Instead of garlic, the scallops are made with 紅酒糟. Tastes good and special and not too salty. 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
Then it’s our additional order of mantis shrimps! It’s of the length of my arm and they are very meaty! I asked the kitchen to cook with salty goose egg yolk and it comes out extremely yummy! Not as salty as 避風塘. It’s really fulfilling to have the giant mantis shrimps. These two cost $700 in total plus an addition of $208 for cooking them.
These are the two additional razor clam ($160) in black soy beans and pepper. Okay la. Springy but just typical. $118 for the cooking.
We are already quite full when it gets to the lobster with noodles in cheese. So we packed the lobster and boodles home but it still tasted extremely good when we ate it the next day.
Pork rib in muster salad dress. Meaty, soft, yummy but only a small portion.
Well, i don’t really like these two jelly to be frank…
Though it’s generally good, this restaurant is really far more pricey, at least a double, than other...
Read moreWe were led to this restaurant by the very high ratings given here but should have been warned as there were only a handful of tables compared to the other restaurants. The Michelin guide 2016 rating was well displayed and evident there .. and that got us to give this restaurant a try. Overall very very expensive, quality of food not to much to shout about. What we totally dsliked was the attitude of their manager Kelvin, snobbish couldnt careless attitude, only recommend the high price dishes and almost "taunting" us if we could afford .... a big contrast from the other male service staffs who came and gave us better attention. After we ordered we didnt even see Mr Kelvin anymore. Now going though the various reviews i see most of the high reviews were by "local guides" but i should have paid attention to the many like us tourists to HK who felt in one way or other "dissatisfied". It's certainly not worth paying close to HKD 2000 for few dishes for 2 of us. This is the most memorable "No=No" restaurant on our list this trip. You are warned. There should be other more genuine restaurants in Sai Kung where you can enjoy good seafood and service that Hong Kong can...
Read moreSeng Kee has been in the Michelin guide for a number of years as a one star restaurant. I expected that the preparation and cooking of the food would be done at a high level. We had bought our own seafood by the pier and had the restaurant prepare the dishes. The razor clams were nor properly prepared and the dish was barely edible. Clearly someone had forgot to clean the clams and I could taste the sand still in the textures. Additionally, fragments of the shell were broken and mixed in with the clams. The other dishes were done correctly and were tasty. If it weren't for the razor clams I would probably rate a 4 star and I almost gave a one star review.
Food: 1.5 star Service: 3.5 star Environment: 3 star Overall: 2 Star
The signature salt and pepper abalone dish is worth ordering and was my favorite thing I had here. The fried rice is a bit on the oily side but that is also pretty good although quite expensive for the amount of seafood/protein...
