It took me a while to get the feel for the Xindalu Restaurant in the Hyatt on the Bund in Shanghai. Too over styled, too many staff, too much show, I felt unsure at the outset. Having watched the chefs in the open kitchen quickly taught me a different story. Serious woman and men at work, preparing fresh dishes from best produce with skill and dedication. The food is very good, there is no doubt about it. A towering wood oven prepared the signature dish of the house, Peking Duck! Simply perfect! My five stars go for the Duck. But their fresh fish and shellfish is worth mentioning as well. Many very innovative offerings are in the menue. Sadly, some of the most interesting dishes were not available. Remeber to book duck in advance, and you can book half duck if you only have 2 persons. All dishes are good, but frankly not special considering price. RMB 88 for 6 fried dumplings, which tastes not as good as RMB 8 ones I can eat on streer stalls. Good for business...
