Yuanyuan Restaurant — Restaurant in Shanghai

We were at the original outlet that had a Michelin star. Place was ghosted on a Thursday evening, and we were ushered quickly into their private room. A sign on hindsight that we should have walked out. Alas tired legs and a hungry brood overtook my better senses.

Wood fire roasted duck was pretty good, but what topped it was the 'tortilla wraps' that was exuberantly QQ (think chewy, but of the good kind) that went well with the smoked flavours in the duck. The rest of the dishes was meh in a "regular good" sense.

Overall, if your emphasis is to have privacy with relatively good views of the "Wai tun" this could be your gig. For me there're better food options at the same price...

We had a lunch meeting at Yuanyuan (Yuanwei), a delightful fusion of Shanghai and Cantonese (Yue) cuisine. The food was absolutely delicious, especially the Shanghai red braised pork belly, which was sweet and perfectly fatty. Good Shanghainese dishes. Price is ok. Service is good. Interior is nice. Semi-upscale place.
