To the staff at Ru, I am writing this as a letter of appreciation for the phenomenal staff and service that Ru holds that allowed my 80 year old mother, my friends and I to have multiple wonderful, memorable nights together. Thanks to the dedication and care of your highly capable staff, your restaurant holds a place in my heart and mind, and will continue to do so for a long time. On my first visit to Ru, I had brought my mother there as a celebration of her 80th birthday. We were attended by a bright, young man named Yan, who served us kindly and patiently, and helped us with some wine recommendations with the air and experience of a sommelier. He helped us feel at ease and even arranged for the food to arrive in the best possible order for us to enjoy the full extent of the wine we had chosen. Yan also recommended a signature dish be paired with the wine, and we were well and truly impressed by his knowledge and recommendations! When our meal was almost over, Yan whispered in my ear that he had overheard that it was my mother's 80th birthday and had arranged for a complimentary almond soup dessert for her. This kind and thoughtful gesture really brought out the attentive nature of Yan's service, and I cannot thank him enough for a wonderful night. His excellent service caused me to return to Ru several nights later, as I was checking in and out of the hotel for some other travel plans. When I returned a week later on a Saturday night, Yan was incredibly busy due to the dinner rush. We were instead served by Nick and a restaurant managing Calvin, who, despite the busy dinner rush, attended to us incredibly thoughtfully. As it turned out, Calvin was a tea connoisseur, and similar to Yan on our first night, made a highly welcome recommendation of a delicious tea that truly elevated our experience of our evening - again, the staff at Ru would pull through and serve a delightful evening. For a restaurant in the heart of Tsuen Wan - of all places - I did not expect to find one of the classiest and most enjoyable dining experiences in Hong Kong. Ru is a restaurant full of hidden gems, and I could not simply return home without expressing my highest compliments. Thank you, staff of Ru, for a wonderful addition to my trip home...
Read moreI think I am a regular customer. I didn’t take the food pictures every time. I would recommended the soft shell prawns (金沙軟殼蝦) , barbecued pork (叉燒) , fish maw pot (花膠煲), crispy chicken , crispy baby pigeon fried rice with crab meat and beef noodles. We ate our dinner as a usual family gathering so we didn’t order any seasonal dishes.
The table between tables not too close and I think this is a good place for business meeting , family gathering. It is also baby friendly. The view and the environment is the reason why I keep coming back.
The price is a bit aggressive as it is a Chinese restaurant in Tsuen wan. I think the price is very close to 龍景軒 Lung King Heen (i am talking about the à la carte menu). Lung King Heen is located near IFC and Michelin restaurant. I think it is minimum $500 per adult in Ru. In Lung King Hern is around $700 min per person.
The services are not that good. I would say the services are not stable. The waitress and waiter not always the same. Sometimes I asked some question like can we eat the soft shell prawns? The waitress said no ?.?.?.? Obviously, the staff(s) may not familiar about the food menu and features. I can tell they are short handed. Sometimes the restaurant is 80% full booking , then you have to wait super long to get check. Sometimes the restaurant is 30% full booking , the staffs can always provide...
Read moreThe food was good; the service was not so good. First impression, when we were sat at the table, we were asked how many people were with our reservation, even though they just checked it. They didn't give us a menu, we had to ask for it. They dropped off little glasses of tea separately from the teapot and the tea we ordered. They didn't tell us what it was until we asked - it was a sample of a premium tea. Ok, then tell us without us asking. The food was good but one of the dishes was wrong and they dismissed us when we asked about it. We ordered the dumpling with scallop and xo sauce, but they insisted that this shrimp dumpling was it. We even got a dish with a hair in it. Thankfully that was removed and taken off the bill. The service was brusque and rude - something you'd expect from a cheap cct, not a restaurant in a 5 star hotel. The tea was served to us occasionally but in a very rough manner and almost burned my pregnant wife. The only redeeming quality of the service was Wing. He was very kind and seemed to be trying to clean up everyone else's mess. He's the one who noticed the hair in our food and apologetically removed the dish. Please train the staff to be more like Wing, or else drop your prices significantly to reflect the lower standard in service. We will not be...
