I met up with a handful of new acquaintances here at Sierpe Cocina Caribe, in the Getsemani tourist zone of Cartagena, Colombia. The ambiance was nice because we got there around 7pm, and it wasn't too busy. Also - and this is important - the music/noise level was LOW. We didn't have to shout at each other to be heard, nor did we have to take headache medicine.
We had squid, crab salad, multiple alcoholic drinks, fish, potatoes, and plantain chips. Hell, one of the dishes was literally on fire, haha! None of the food was bland, it was all tasty (not spicy but definitely flavorful), and we had a good time! Especially when an older Dutch couple showed up and engaged me in a little excited travel conversation.
Keep in mind: the menu doesn't indicate that the Crab Salad (which is what) has cheese on it. So when it came covered in cheese, I had to send it back (I am severely lactose intolerant). The waiter seemed annoyed but gracious. I showed him that the menu does NOT say it comes with cheese (so it wasn't my fault). To their credit, I was not charged for it.
I also had a margarita and another sweet alcoholic drink, both of which were quite good!
When the meal was over, they brought us SEPARATE CHECKS. Now that's SMART RESTAURANT SERVICE (you almost never see that Common Sense move in Colombia). The waiter definitely...
Read moreThe best meal we had in Cartagena. The staff was just amazing, very friendly and helpful in helping us order the right things. And now the food, simply delicious. First we ordered the Crab Dip. It was probably the best crab dip I’ve ever had. Not too creamy and robust flavors. The chips that came along were a bit too hard, but the dip was great to even enjoy with a fork. Then we moved onto Salmon Curry. I could write a page about the salmon curry. It was perfectly cooked salmon with the right amount of curry sauce and white yam purée adding a hint of sweetness and the best part was the side order of coconut sweet rice we ordered. It was the perfect compliment to the curry salmon.
Second dish we ordered was the Seafood Cassoulet. It was amazing. Again the sauce it was cooked in was perfect.
Highly recommend this place to anyone looking for a great dinner with the best service.
PS I do recommend making reservations if going after 6 pm. It...
Read moreThis place disappointed. Another review mentioned the crab rice entree being good, so I ordered it. The crab arrived and was served ice cold. It was obvious it was still frozen. I mentioned this to the staff and they took it back; however without an apology or any comment, and they later charged the full price for the dish. The crab was also the smallest crab I've ever seen served in a restaurant anywhere in the world. Well under the minimum 5.5 inch / 14cm point-to-point catch limit in several countries. It was probably half of that size. The claw was about the size of half my pinkie finger. Why catch and serve a crab that has no crab meat? And frozen? I would have assumed it was a garnish except that it was served with the crab claw cracker tool. The rice had a weird flavor and didn't taste like crab. On my dish alone, I would rate this restaurant 1 star, but my wife's dish was decent. Overall pricey and not great quality. Would...
