Plaza de la Trinidad, the beating heart of Getsemaní (pronounced 'Heth-se-mah-nee'), is a captivating crossroads of cultures and experiences. To simply say it's a 'town square' feels like an understatement; it's a vibrant, living stage where the world comes to play. I found myself drawn back time and again, spending hours just observing the fascinating tapestry of humanity unfolding before me. Travelers from every corner of the globe mingle with locals, creating a truly electric atmosphere. The sensory delights don't stop there. The air is thick with the tantalizing aromas of street food, a culinary adventure in itself. From arepas sizzling on grills to the sweet scent of tropical fruits, there's something to tempt every palate. The surrounding bars, each with its own unique character, offer a dizzying array of beverages, ensuring you'll find the perfect drink to complement the evening's mood. What truly sets Plaza de la Trinidad apart is its laid-back, effortlessly cool ambiance. It's a place where time seems to slow down, allowing you to fully immerse yourself in the moment. My Airbnb's proximity, a mere ten feet away, was a stroke of luck, granting me front-row seats to this nightly spectacle. Even at 2 am, the plaza felt remarkably safe and welcoming, a testament to the neighborhood's vibrant yet peaceful spirit. The magic truly begins to unfold between 9 pm and midnight. As the sun dips below the horizon, the plaza transforms into a lively hub of activity, illuminated by the warm glow of streetlights and the chatter of excited voices. For a truly unique experience, visit on a Sunday. The church, with its doors wide open, provides a serene counterpoint to the lively atmosphere, offering a moment of spiritual reflection and a profound sense of peace. The juxtaposition of the lively square and the tranquil church creates a divine and unforgettable experience. I had the most incredible evening at Plaza Trinidad in Cartagena, Colombia, and I can’t recommend it enough! This vibrant square in the heart of Getsemaní is buzzing with energy, culture, and the kind of atmosphere that makes you feel alive. My friends and I visited on a Friday night, and it was the highlight of our trip.
We started the night by grabbing some drinks from a nearby corner store—public drinking is totally okay here, which adds to the laid-back vibe. We sipped on tequila shots with friends, laughing and soaking in the lively scene around us. The street vendors were amazing, and we couldn’t resist trying a passionfruit margarita from one of them. It was hands-down the best margarita I’ve ever had—perfectly tangy, refreshing, and just the right amount of sweet. We also sampled some local liquor, aguardiente, which had a unique anise flavor that paired surprisingly well with the warm night air.
The real magic happened when our tour guide, Cesar, got us dancing! Plaza Trinidad is known for its street performances, and we were lucky to catch some live salsa music. Cesar taught us a few moves, and soon we were twirling and laughing to the infectious rhythms. As the night went on, the music shifted to reggaeton, and the whole square turned into a dance party. Cesar’s energy was contagious—he knew all the best spots and made sure we felt like locals, not just tourists.
Between the drinks, the music, and the electric atmosphere, Plaza Trinidad is a must-visit in Cartagena. Whether you’re with friends or flying solo, this place will sweep you up in its charm. I can’t wait to come back! CASH ONLY so hit the ATM. It's get lit at...
Read moreThe Plaza de la Trinidad is pure magic once the sun goes down. During the day, it’s charming and historic—but at night? The whole vibe just shifts into something unforgettable. Locals and tourists alike flock to the plaza, and it quickly becomes the heart of Cartagena’s nightlife (without even being a club).
There’s this amazing energy in the air—music, laughter, the scent of street food drifting through the crowd. You’ll find street performers dancing, drumming, doing tricks, or just making you laugh. Food vendors line the square offering arepas, empanadas, and other Colombian street eats that are chef’s kiss.
This spot was just one block from our Airbnb, so we’d often pass through it on the way to pretty much anywhere—and every single time, it pulled us in with its energy.
It’s one of those places where you don’t really need a plan—just show up and the night takes care of itself. Whether you’re grabbing a drink from a nearby bar, chatting with new friends, or just soaking it all in, Plaza de la Trinidad is the kind of place that leaves a mark on your memory.
Highly recommend spending an evening here—you’ll see why it’s the social heartbeat...
