Lolo's — Restaurant in Carmen

We asked for a vegan pizza, they put ham and salame. We asked for a menu, the waitress said it was not avail due to covid, but oh surprise not digital menu neither (so you couldn't see the pricing?). The waitress seemed annoyed and keep contradicting herself over a simple half and half pizza she herself offered in the 1st place. The Sangria was tasteless, so was the pizza. The half vegan pizza turned out non vegan and we ended paying 18000 col $30) for the pizza and one sangria. With that money, I'd expect something exclusive, vegan, tasty... As a vegan myself, I'll stick to the Spoon restaurants chain. You can find nice vegan options (like an Spoon falafel with hummus+salad for $7, drink, vat and service included) that keep you full, much nicer staff w great customer service. The music in the background and the layout was nice though. But food and customer service needs lots of improvement. Hopefully they could...

It's hard to get a spot but if you do...a pizza experience to end all pizza adventures. Lolo the owner is the Costarican Anthony Bourdain, a rockstar in his own terms he delivers ridiculously HIGH QUALITY pies in a vintage-styled restaurant that feels like an escape away from the hideous fluorescent light modernity in San José. Lolo is a CD collector with great taste in music and if possible, he'll put a specific album on if you ask him. Please keep it mind it's an expensive pizzeria, this is gourmet dining to a degree and there's no parking (you have to leave your car on a dead end street and then walk). Cute hidden place. Service was really good and the pizza was enjoyable. Knocked down 2 stars because, without warning (there was no written menu given out), the pizza was 14000 colones (large vegetarian), which makes it the most expensive pizza I've seen or had in Costa Rica, by a significant margin, and there's nothing to justify it -- no fancy ingredients, lightly topped. Completely inexplicable price. As we were eating we thought it was a nice place we'd be back to and recommend, but after paying the bill there's no reason to go when there's equally good or better pizza all over the place for...
