First we will start with the good. The place is clean, the staff is friendly.
Now onto where I feel Lone Star could improve.
Timing in the kitchen. One of the most important things in a restaurant is making sure your kitchen sends out all the food for an order at the same time. Lone star has consistently shown they are incapable of sending an order out all at the same time. The last time I was there one of our guest didn't receive her Cob Salad until the rest of the table had finished eating.
Food portions, Tico's are not used to the large portions that are common in the USA. (I would say this is a good thing.) But when your restaurant is named after the state that claims everything is bigger there. The lone star state. You should live up to the name and make everything at least similar sized portions to the USA.
The last time I was there one of our guests ordered onion rings with his sandwich. It was served with 3 onion rings. Yes there were decent sized. But still this young man felt he didn't get a proper portion size. The fries also always seem to come up short. Like there just isn't enough.
Fajitas only comes with two tortillas, I've been here almost a dozen times with people, someone always orders the Fajitas and every time I've heard a complaint about only getting two tortillas. There's more filling then could possibly go into two tortillas. When asked for more the customer gets charged for more. (I'm not against charging for more, IF the meal comes with the proper amount for the dish)
Cheese comes in a small what I would consider thimble, when you order Fajitas. I would say for most people it's not enough. Cheese is very expensive here, so I get it. But still would be better to charge more for the meal, up the portions of cheese and tortillas and not have the customer going away annoyed.
Wait Staff. It's hit or miss. They are always VERY friendly but could use a little more training on refilling water glasses, "hands in, hand out" serving theory. Last time were were there, we had asked for some things (extra cheese, tortillas and our server just never brought them out. We asked the fella who worked there. Came out right away) For the most part she was fine, but needed more training.
Conclusion. Lone Star Jaco is almost there. Atmosphere is great, staff could very quickly be trained up to 5 star. With a few improvements to this would be an awesome restaurant in town! Just needs in my opinion to sort these things out. I wish the owner nothing but the best as this restaurant is so close to being a great Jaco...
Read moreWell on a positive note it is a clean place and that is on outside looking in only. Reminds you of a new spin on an old Dallas diner .... because I was born there I can say that precisely. Obviously a Dallas Cowboy fan because W. brought all his memorabilia. Live music fine. Ok and not too loud.
Food and service.... well you got simple burger and fries order wrong... and although advertised as Black Angus beef (a Texas staple of cattlemen life) ... just didnt taste any of that and zero spice didnt help with an attempt of BBQ sauce to cover the bland up.... plus case in point, when you order a burger with cheese and bacon...put it on the burger and dont make customer send it back.... this allowed for a completely soggy bottom bun with an attempted reheat burnt top bun..... but the re plate with cold fries still a NO GO.
Server was nice or the 3 we had rotate in but the price of $22 burger keeps me wondering why do I still want to pay $10 for a Whataburger Dbl Bacon loaded with Coke n fries before I ever come back. Give me something special here.... the chicken soup was two tablespoons of chicken.... come on guy... your not serving bistro food at Jerry world (sorry JJ) so this place needs to make better food.
As for speed of service great... but light crowd so hard to judge... if u dont change something however this will be another Jaco casualty......
Read moreThree of us had lunch. Chili cheese fries, chicken quesadilla, and pop corn shrimp. 2 beers and non alcoholic fruit drink. 55,000 colones or about $110 US dollars. We thought well this is pretty expensive for Costa Rica or for North America but I’m sure the food will be great.
It wasn’t.
The chili cheese fries were floating in a thin soup of hamburger grease and melted cheese oil that made the entire mess disgusting. The quesadilla had no flavour bland chicken and cheese with nothing added. Go to rolling thunder saloon for the best chili cheese fries
The breaded shrimp was decent, but was $24 US. They catch shrimp locally and sell it cheaply by the kg. Maybe they imported the shrimp from Asia or the breading was some special artisan wood fired oven baguette crushed and into breading but I doubt it.
Anyway you don’t see locals eating there and there is probably a...
