Tacobar — Restaurant in Jacó

The menu is very busy and a bit confusing if you don’t speak English, but the person taking orders will help you through. I ordered grilled tilapia tacos and my wife ordered fried snapper. The portions are very hearty so plan to be full if you get 3 tacos.

They have an interesting condiments buffet with different types of sauces and vegetables to go with your meal. Some of the options seemed strange (fish tacos with roasted new potatoes?) but overall the options will satisfy you after a full day on the beach.

Unfortunately I waited for my wife to be served so my food was stone cold after the 25 minute delay for her order to show up. It appears someone just forgot it because her fried fish was getting cold and clearly soggy. That said, the flavor of her fried snapper was good and if they had been fresh tacos I’m sure they would be outstanding. My tilapia was ok; one whole taco worth of fish was so tough I couldn’t actually bite through the pieces so I left those on the plate.

I can see why some people have really enjoyed their meal here. Maybe we caught them on a bad day. I’d be willing to give them another try in the future, so I’m not rating them the one star that reflects my actual satisfaction...

Lets start with the good.

The staff: excellent English(for ordering, patient, and good at answering your questions.

The general marketing, great job you hooked me from miles away.

The space, you pumped a bunch of money in to this place to make it gringo beach casual. Swings are odd but sure you do you.

The mediocre

The food for the price. My meal was ~10 USD and wasn't what I would want to order or recommend to anyone. I by no means blame the cooking staff for this. It was prepared fine.

The bad/confusing

You advertise a taco bar, and (Mediterranean buffet) but let's be real here. Your buffet is a hodgepodge of things that don't belong near a taco and are really more sides than anything.

The really strange.

Your menu is terrible. I hate to break it to you but it's straight out of an episode of Kitchen Nightmares with Gordon Ramsay, Google kitchen nightmares Sébastians. When you think taco bar you think simple not complex. Ditch over half the menu clear a ton of over head in the process and focus on a few...

So there are a few pros and cons. The lady who is in charge of cash register is very sweet. She was very helpful in helping us choose what to eat. The food was decent, nothing special. I order the 3 tacos and the topping from the salad bar. And then I had a passion fruit mojitos, which I honestly did not like at all. It was very sour and the seed were definitely a choking hazard. I only had a sip and requested to change the drink, the cashier was more than willing to do that for me but the lady in the back made a scene and refused to do so. I asked for a refund and they would not provide. Then they took the drink I had and then blend it all together and actually made it taste worse. I had to give them back their drink and demand a refund.

In order to keep customers, it’s best to make sure that your putting your best product for the customer and provide them with great customer service. I am very disappointed in the service I received, I didn’t go into detail on the attitude...
