Good assortment, and regularly good offers - at least according to their price tags. Unfortunately, the prices you’ll find at the shelves are often NOT what you are charged at the counter. Yet again, I was overcharged today! :( Instead of 2200 CRC as ticketed, I was charged 3630 CRC for pasta sauce (see pictures). Unfortunately, I didn’t pay attention and only saw it at home. Yet, the other day, the three cans of tuna were ticketed 3100 CRC as depicted, but instead of this figure I was about to pay the regular price only to find myself in a discussion with the cashier for which I went back to the shelf and took the picture. Then, another time, I was charged 3000 CRC for two cartons of almond milk which according to their price tag cost 1350 CRC each. I have NO clue for how many other items I was overcharged (or possibly undercharged as well), but someone from management urgently needs to check this store, their pricing, and possibly their administrative accounting. On the other hand, I, for sure, need to be more aware of what I am paying - what is a shame since I prefer to trust the places where I go shopping…
Update: I have immediately sent an email as requested by their response. I’ve never heard back from them. Seems they not just need to get their pricing right - but also their...
Read morePronounced mas por menos (more for less). Mas X Menos was the first big grocery store in Jaco. It was here when I first visited Jaco in 1991. It's still in the same central downtown location, and still staffed with locals. But some years ago the Mas X Menos chain was bought by Walmart Central America, so now it's owned by Walmart and carries all the global brand name products you are used to, plus a good selection of Costa Rica products including year round fresh fruits and vegetables. Jaco is the favorite beach resort for Ticos from the Central Valley (the city), and Mas X Menos gets very busy on weekends and holidays like Navidad (Christmas) and Semana Santa (Easter). In addition to food you will find a selection of beach stuff like bathing suits, sandals and kids water toys. There's also an ATM and a money-sending service. Recently 2 walls of the adjacent building were painted with huge tropical murals sponsored by a local group called Artify Jaco. You'll walk right past Mas X Menos as you stroll along Avenida...
Read moreTHIS STORE DOES NOT CHECK IDENTIFICATION. I had four of my cards stolen and they tried to use them here and charged almost $250 dollars total before I was able to close the accounts. I went to the manager who said they don’t charge more than $100 without ID. I told them that was clearly a lie since I still had my ID and one charge was for $211. Then he just said it was “busy” and there are lots of people. I said how was it not suspicious that someone was just using four cards to make a large purchase? It would have taken less time to check ID.
So either the employees are incompetent or worse they are working with the thieves and letting it slide. Hold this store accountable for their employees’ lazy actions.
