La Fortuna Pub — Restaurant in La Fortuna

My husband and I came here on recommendation from the owner of our Airbnb in La Fortuna while we were on vacation. When we arrived, only 3 tables were full. We stood at the host stand for 3-5 mins without any acknowledgment, so decided to just sit because perhaps it was seat ourselves?

We sat at a larger table as that was all that was left and clean. (Bar type seating was available but dishes were all over it from whoever left prior.)

The server approached us and told us we couldn’t sit at such a large table in case a family came in later and needed it (keep in mind there were many other large tables open). We were confused but said sure where would you like us to sit? He rolled his eyes and walked away and started wiping down the bar where the dirty dishes were before.

My husband and I then moved to the bar area even though we couldn’t tell if that’s where he wanted us or not. After he cleaned the area, he walked off and no one came to take our order for 10 mins (if it was busy, I’d understand-but it wasn’t). It definitely seemed like we weren’t welcome there. Loved this place with Maylon bring our #1 for sure, and beer selection #2 amongst many other great aspects (music, atmosphere, games etc). We visited 2 nights in a row. First visit, we were seeking beer variety. We walked up to the beer coolers to check out the selection, and immediately, Maylon came over to give us an overview of what beers they had available. Tons of great options and information about what they had available (this is being said from folks visiting from the NW US with endless great micros). Second night, the place was busy busy busy, and Maylon seemed to be flying solo (without a colleague FOH in sight) but kept up and did so with nothing but the same pleasantries of our first evening when the patron volume was lower. We had a horrific experience. Went there while in La Fortuna as menu looked interesting. Got there before the rush and ordered guacamole and chips for app. Came out with super stale chips. Complained and she said they were just made. My kids wouldn’t even eat them. Then she brought out our mojitos and looked and tasted awful. My husband asked her if there was a manager and she said yes, then asked if he could speak to them as we weren’t going to eat or drink what they brought out. She said they had stepped out and would be back later. BTW, my husband never asks for the manager so you know it must have been awful. She then just made us pay for my daughters drink and we left.
