The food was not edible. We ordered the butter chicken (indian spicy), aloo gobi (indian spicy), 2 naan's and pakora.
Unfortunately the food tasted awful, minus the naan; that was good. My husband and I told the waitress we could not enjoy the food, it had an odd flavour to it. The butter chicken and aloo gobi tasted the same, it was awful... too much black pepper? I've never tasted black pepper in Indian dishes like this before. I should know, my husband and I ran a successful Indian Restaurant for years in Canada.
Anyways, the waitress took the food off the table, did not try to fix the order, instead she said we still had to pay for our meal. We were shocked. We didn't even eat the food, she could of at least offered to have the order remade??? Instead, she said we had to pay and there was not much she could do.
We just got to Costa Rica, we traveled for over 26 hours, and this was our first meal, so we were not sure what to do, or how things like this are handled in this country so we paid the bill which was over $100 Canadian!!! Outch!!!
As we were leaving, the waitress said, "The cook's only been here for 3 days, he's new so I will let the owner know. But the cook has lots of experience so his food should be good."
I don't know why the waitress told us this as we were leaving, but I wish we knew that before we ordered. Third day on the job and this new chef did not prepare a good meal. 2 thumbs down.
Won't be coming back here ever again. We had a group of 30 friends meeting up with us at Costa Rica and they all wanted Indian food in La Fortuna, but we did not recommend this place. So this restaurant lost a lot of business. But there was no way I was letting 30 of my friends spend money here, if the Restaurant gave us good service than maybe my opinion would have been different, but the food was terrible.
My friends and I are coming back to La Fortuna next year, don't think we will be...
Read moreI love Indian food, and try it everywhere I go. The food here deserves 2-3 stars. We tried the butter chicken - curry itself was nice, but chicken came in very big chunks, undercooked, and hard. Also tried the coconut curry - It was super sweet and full of sugar (which is not mentioned on the menu) so we checked with the waiter if we can replace it for the fish masala curry and the waiter agreed. the fish curry came out okay but really spicy (on the menu it doesn't mention anything about the spiciness of this specific dish while on others it does)
To our surprise when we got the bill, we saw they charged us also for the too sweet coconut curry we replaced. the owner arrived to our table and argued it's not possible to replace a dish that was already cooked. I don't usually like to return dishes and try to avoid doing so, and I generally agree that a restaurant don't have to agree to it. but in this case, it was too sweet, and they agreed. the owner insisted that we pay although it was clear to me the waiter was the one who made the mistake (she also took the dish we wanted to replace back to the kitchen) This argument lasted for at least 10 minutes, in front of all the other people in the place listening and without any justified reasons from the owner about why we should pay except "it's impossible to return a dish"
To the owner, Please, take responsibility for your business and employees. I would not recommend anyone to eat here, only due to the behaviour of the owner. And the food is average anyways.
Edit after owner response: We paid for all the food we ate: 50$ which is already too much for two below average...
Read moreI don't like giving negative reviews for food, but I feel it's important for this restaurant to know how disappointing the food was for someone who has eaten Indian food their entire life. The samosa chaat wasn't a chaat. Putting a samosa on some salad and chick peas isn't a chaat. The paneer in the saag paneer was so hard and rubbery that it'd have bounced off if I had thrown it on the floor. They just pureed the saag and mixed in with paneer and probably heated it in the microwave because it had zero flavors or spices in it. The butter chicken had absolutely no butter in it. It felt like the chicken was boiled and mixed in with some sauce they think Indian curry sauce should tastes like. I am genuinely curious if the owner or the chef know anything about Indian food or they are just lazy and passing on terrible food as Indian food. If anyone has never had Indian food before and tried the food at this restaurant, they'd assume Indian food is terrible and would most likely never try Indian food again. Also, they charged $76 American dollars for 2 naans, 2 samosas, 1 butter chicken, one saag paneer (lunch portion) and one Lassi. This amount of food would have been about $35 to $40 or so in the states. Since we were on vacation and had already ordered, we just bit the bullet. It was one of the most disappointing dining experiences of my life. Please do better because you're representing a cousine that's one of the best...
