We arrived ready to enjoy some steak since the restaurant name says it is a SteakHouse, however, it was not what we expected. The team members were nice, yet the food was a little delayed given that there were not many people dining. The steaks were NOT cooked to the desired/asked temperature, none of the 3. 2 of them came out extremely overcooked when requested at Medium, and then the last meat came out Medium when it was requested at Medium Well. We also don’t think it helps that the steak is plated on a cast iron skillet, so it continues cooking it while served. The French fries were nice and crispy, but that was about it. 4 alcoholic drinks were ordered, and none were good. The Margarita, Mojito, Arenal Sunrise and Piña Colada tasted as though they had little to no alcohol- and trust me, we are not heavy drinkers- everything tasted like juice.
When we received the bill, it was expensive for the quality of the food we received. Since the Margarita was bad from the beginning, it was asked to be replaced with the Mojito- and they agreed, yet both were charged. When I approached them about charging the Margarita, even though it was asked to be replaced, they said it was done to “their standard”, they tasted it and felt nothing was wrong with it, and they saved it aside in case I wanted to take it to go… I have never heard that before? I told them all of the drinks created to “their standard” were bad, and they shouldn’t have agreed to replace it if their policy requires them to charge it, regardless if it was consumed or not. In the end, it was taken off our bill- however, I wanted to include this part in case others are affected by the restaurant policy - being charged for an item done to “their standard” regardless if it was consumed or enjoyed… even...
Read moreAfter visiting the waterfalls in La Fortuna, we decided to have dinner in town. Driving through, we noticed Volcano Steakhouse. The name sounded appealing, and the exterior looked inviting, so we decided to give it a try.
The staff was incredibly friendly, and we were seated quickly. However, we were surprised to find the restaurant completely empty during peak dining hours, especially since the neighboring restaurant was bustling with customers.
The drinks were served promptly and were delicious, which set a promising tone. Our meal began with soup, which was tasty but slightly too salty. The rest of the appetizers and smaller dishes were decent, but things took a sharp turn when it came to the main course.
We both ordered the Cowboy Steak, requesting it cooked to a medium doneness. After a long wait, our steaks finally arrived, looking good at first glance. Unfortunately, the quality was a major disappointment. My steak was burnt to the point where the charred crust was inedible. Beneath the burnt exterior, there was an overcooked, leathery layer, followed by a small portion of medium-done meat. The center, however, was raw, cold, and completely undercooked. It was one of the worst steaks I've ever had, and at $50 per plate, it felt like a total waste. I left most of it uneaten.
If you’re looking for a place to enjoy good drinks and maybe a light snack, this spot might be worth visiting. The staff is kind, and the atmosphere is pleasant, but unfortunately, the chef seems to lack the expertise needed to prepare a proper...
Read moreDo NOT recommend. Food took Nearly an hour to arrive and it was certainly not worth the wait. Among our meals the Steaks where disappointing and bland, (nothing compared to other restaurants in the area!) and the pasta sauce was unbearably salty. We complained around midway through our meal and the manager Jacqueline defensively stated that it cannot be that bad as we had started eating it (we where staving! Of course I’m going to give the food a chance and try to eat what I can) following this, after reluctantly taking only 1 of our pastas off the bill, the first bill to come to us had an EXTRA pasta dish added, which came across as an attempt to over charge us for complaining. After around 15 minutes trying to sort out out bill we finally managed to leave.
(By the way restaurant was less than half full, and if you can’t serve food in good time when under half the restaurants capacity there is a problem. It was also NOT explained to us by the server that there would be such a long wait until we complained. We had been travelling all day, very hungry and tired, so ultimately we would eat SOME mediocre food, steaks where NOT finished, so do not make out as if they where, other places in the area where drastically better, and not to mention the attitude of the manager, the defensive tone can also be demonstrated within their response. Thank you for putting in the...
