TIP* The hotel names can be confusing. The hotel is actually called La Fortuna Downtown Inn but when checking on google maps or on reviews site such as this one, you will find it under Arenal Bromelias.||||||We stayed at Fortuna Downtown Inn for 3 nights in May and had a great stay.||The location is perfect, right in the middle of Downtown, next to restaurants, grocery stores and tour agencies. Right across the street is a beautiful park.||The view of the volcano from the front of the hotel is breathtaking and I'm guessing if our room was higher up, the view would have been great as well.||Most rooms have balconies, ours did not.||We had room 11 which is right in front of the pool and 2 steps away from the lobby||and breakfast area which was convenient but only downside was that it was a little bit noisy in the morning and no balcony.||The room itself was beautiful, comfortable bed, big flat screen tv, best a/c in our whole trip, great wi-fi ( maybe due to being close to the lobby? ) and big & beautiful shower with hot water.||Our room was handicap accessible so I'm guessing that's why the shower was as big as it was but it was truly amazing.||||The pool was gorgeous, warm and we liked the fact that we could drink alcoholic beverages poolside. ||The breakfast in the morning was delicious. Most days it was continental with a big variety of choices and great coffee. Other days it was plate breakfast of eggs & plantains. The lady at the breakfast counter was so nice & such a great cook. I unfortunately forgot her name but she was so hardworking. She worked at the breakfast counter but also did housekeeping and maintenance work. She always had a smile on her face, rain or sun, and she really lit up our stay ! ||||Front desk staff were also very friendly and always available to help.||Felt super safe as entire facility was gated.||||All in all our stay was wonderful !||We would recommend this hotel to friends with no hesitation.||||Thank you for a great stay in the wonderful city...
Read moreVoted 2 stars for location but the hotel itself was the worse one I've stayed at in a while. The rooms are tiny. The balcony lacked privacy and security; everyone's balconies looked out to each other and were super close to each other and the balcony door had no lock so it would've been easy for someone from another room to step over to our balcony and go into our room). The bathroom also had no hair conditioner and they couldn't provide any so we had to go to the convenience store to buy some. It speaks poorly as a hotel if your guests have to make a convenience store run for something that every single hotel I've ever been at provided.
Also there is no common area to hang out at. There is a pool however it was next to the restaurant where diners could just look over and see you swimming, this might be common for outdoor restaurants and pools but super awkward and weird with indoor restaurants. There was no pool towels in sight and when we asked for them, the 2 hotel workers we asked looked clueless as if that's the first time anyone asked that. They had to ask the lobby guy and it took a while for him to get it to us. The pool also had no lounge chairs or any chairs or furniture of any kind to sit or place your stuff by the pool. It's as if they have the pool for pics and to advertise that they have a pool but they discourage or don't want anyone to use it bc it would weird out their restaurant guests.
Breakfast was basic. Bar was pricey, we got charged $20 for an old fashioned. All in all we wouldn't rebook and were much happier at hotel monte real and La fortuna Lodge which were similar pricing...
Read moreFirst of all, the positive feedback: the location is very nice, hot and cool waterpool, hammocs in the garden and nice deluxe rooms with a beautiful sight to the vulcano. The standard rooms are okay. Price was quite fair. |Nevertheless, we had some service problems with the reception here which has real organizational problems. As I wrote above, we had two rooms (deluxe and standard) as we spontaneosly decided to stay more time in la Fortuna and there was only the deluxe room left for the mentioned additional night. They told us it would be no problem to change rooms at checkout time, 11 a.m. or leave the baggage in the baggage room. So we went to the hot springs thinking that we would have the room for a shower. But no: When returned at 1:45 p.m. we received the room dirty. Even the toilet was unusable. So I asked for cleaning at the reception who unfriendly commented to me that we got the room before checkin time (2 p.m.) and that now the girl would be having lunch. (It already was 2 p.m. at that moment or at least 5 minutes left!) Well, we waited until 3 p.m. so that we got a clean room. At 6 p.m. we asked for the towels which are a big problem in that hotel. When we got them changed (or simply got them) we had to wait at least until 4 or 5 p.m.. |Another problem where the constructions next to the hostel. They even continued in the late evening and early night. Hopefully they end soon.||All in all if you don't have any special wishes (and may bring your own towel?) I can recommend the hostel as it is...
