Rincón Mochilero — Restaurant in Sámara

Rincón Mochilero is a small soda in a food court area of Samara, Costa Rica. Go here for the best tasting typical Tico food at a fair price.

This outdoor, cafeteria style soda has a few minor challenges and despite them, I eat here at least once a week, often more. The food is fast, flavorful and fantastic! If you are looking for a good meal, big portions at a great value, Rincon Mochilero is a must try.

Among the challenges is parking, street parking only on what is the busiest calle in Samara. Challenge two is seating, which are only a few bar stools at a counter. Challenge 3 is food availability and hours, which are limited to lunch and when food runs out. Despair not, there is a simple solution. Arrive before lunch rush at noon to beat the crowd, get parking nearby and a seat at the counter.

This was by far my favorite place to eat in Samara! I much prefer it to a regular Casado meal. Basically, they have a bunch of options and you pick 5 for 3000 colones (price is the same whether it’s lunch or dinner). The menu changes every day, and even changes within a day from breakfast/lunch to dinner (a different main cook comes in at 5). You can take it away for 200 colones more (and I think if you clean and save that packaging, they won’t charge you to re-use it for future takeaways). I only wish I discovered it sooner during my trip to Samara. I would’ve gone every day.

The setting (an outdoor food court; they’re right next to Sweets by Celia) is also fun.

Also, their listed hours are incorrect. They’re open weekdays from about 8:30 am to 11 pm, and on both Saturday and Sunday from about 8:30 to 5 pm. I asked them. We tried suggesting an edit to Google but so far they...
