Clock Tower of Dubrovnik — Attraction in Dubrovnik

The elegant 31-metres high City Bell Tower or Clocktower is located on the far eastern side of Stradun near the Sponza Palace, Luža (the main guard building), the Church of St. Blaise and the Orlando's Column. It was constructed in 1444, while in 1506 Ivan Rabljanin, the most famous Croatian caster of cannons and bells, made the new bell. Two wooden figures hitting the bell were also replaced with the bronze ones, and these are the famed Dubrovnik "Zelenci" (meaning the "Greens" or "the Dubrovnik Green Men" after the bronze colour). Over the years the original figures had suffered a much damage so replicas were installed (in 1929); the originals went through intensive restoration (2004-2009) and today they can be seen in the Rector's Palace (before the restoration they were in the Sponza Palace Atrium).
