The key components of the meal I ordered for myself -- the seafood soup and the shrimp pasta -- were fine. Seafood soup was thick served in a bread bowl; however, one could not make up what seafood actually made up the soup as it mostly dissolved in the liquid. Shrimp pasta was fine but I found the portion size was too small so I ordered a second portion. First shrimp pasta was a bit light on the shrimp; the second, more generously accomodated. Served with grated parmesan on the side but I turned the parmesan down; I allign with Italians as far as abstaining putting grated parmesan on seafood. Our group ordered six raw oysters; I samples one, which was certainly fresh; but I prefer much more clams on the half-shell, which are not available at this venue. The group also ordered a crab salad, which was ample in quantity. However, it had a lot of mayonnaise in it and I absolutely detest mayonnaise so I am really glad I refrained from ordering a seafood salad for myself. We were advised that the red mullet is sourced locally so one from our party ordered it; although I did not samply it, the red mullet, which is fried, appeared insufficient in terms of quantity of fish for the price charged. However, I was informed that the little that was served was certainly fresh. In addition, one salmon tartar was ordered. I didn't sample that but it seemed to be reasonably sized but I didn't really like the way it was presented so I didn't sample it. (It looked to be like a small cake with chunks of fish on top and avocado on the bottom. Most tartars are served on a big plate with thin strips of fish or meat. Finally, one grilled salmon was ordered; the piece of fish appeated reasonable in relation to its size. Fish dishes were served with fries. Not everyone would choose fries to accompany their meal but that it what you get. The girl ate fish mcnuggets, which also came with fries. We got a complementary dessert of some sort that was not bad. The aperol spritz cocktail, I was told, was not particularly good; I stuck to a single big bottle (660ml) of the local beer (Keo) for 4.5 euros. For lunch at Dmitri's, by way of comparison, the same bottle cost me just 3 euros. Service was fine but the interior was not airconditioned; cooled only by fans. We ate late at 10pm so that heat was not too much of an issue. Very useful parking on the premises. The bill came to 152 euros (without tip) for three adults and one child. All in all a reasonable meal but the price may be too inflated for what we actually obtained. For example, 34 euros for what is in essence two plates of spaghetti on average with seven small-medium-size shrimp per plate seems to me to be too costly (though I do not gainsay that it...
Read moreThe service was top notch. The wait staff worked together to ensure I had what I needed. The food was fair, at best. It looked great, but lacked flavor. I had the salad, which was good once I asked for the dressing that had not been put on it. They serve a basket of bread. I’m a bread lover. If I eat nothing else, I eat the bread. Not here. The bread was something like a rye bread. It was hard and lacked something. Even with the butter I asked for, it was no good. I did not eat more than one piece of it. I had the calamari. It was fried in a light batter. It was tender and had great texture; however, it had no flavor. They serve it with a sauce on the side, which you need to palate the absence of taste of the squid. I had the grilled octopus. It was very lightly seasoned, but cool (I like my octopus hot). It was tender and had great texture as well; however, the seasoning they used was lacking. The octopus came with fries. The fries were nicely seasoned (a bit heavy on the salt) and cooked nicely. Finally, an after dinner sweet is served. I believe it was Cypriot yogurt with a blueberry glaze. It was sweet, but the texture was that of jello. Mot bad tasting, the texture was just off. My meal totaled €32. I would not eat...
Read moreThis tavern has a brand new, vibrant and fresh look, both in the dining room but in the menu as well.
Dishearteningly though, it no longer offers the typical meze the way it used to. The new menu only serves a much smaller assortment of fish that comes in two large plates all at once.
Several (non-native) fish such as the swordfish and the salmon were clearly frozen and pretty bland. The grilled octopus was overcooked and the clams were disappointing, to say the least.
Sadly, our bad experience did not end at the food quality. Although we ordered a salad with appetisers and the appetisers never arrived, the salad was charged at a price higher than what was written on the menu. When we asked for an explanation, the server tried to cover it up buy saying that a 2-person plain salad was triply charged (because we shared between 3 people) and a discount was applied. This was clearly made-up simply to "construct" a price that was not even mentioned in the menu.
In a nutshell, this was a greatly disappointing experience at a place that it used to excel! Let's hope they realise this...
