Fettas Tavern — Restaurant in Paphos Municipality

We visited this place 4 times: June 2019, August 2020, June 2021 and September 2021. The first 3 visits were great, as you can see from the number of times we returned. However, the latest experience was just unbelievably different.

We came on Monday and were told “we only serve meze on Mondays” but it was a lie as I see in other reviews that it’s the same for Fridays and other days of week. There was no menu and we didn’t ask the price as we previously knew the restaurant as reasonable priced.

We ordered 4x Meze, large water, large beer and 0.5l wine. The meal was good, with decent portions and great variety of food. Rather good service, too.

The worst of surprises came with the bill - 124€ ! But as it was a birthday dinner of a family member, we paid with bill without any objections and left. I checked the reviews later and found out the “normal” price for meze is 20€ per person, which means we were overcharged by approximately 30€!

I don’t know what is forcing this restaurant to implement such miserable tactics. I find it sad when loyal customers are treated this way and neither me, nor my family will be returning after...

Terrible staff, major attitude. We didn’t feel welcomed at all when the waiter seated us. We didn’t made a reservation, Ok fair enough. After that, it took a long time before anyone even gave us a menu for drinks. Nobody made eyecontact as if they were punishing us for not making a reservation. I said to my partner: if nobody is coming to us in the next ten minutes I’m going to book a spot across the street (which was full first, that’s why we went to Fettas, but I called while waiting at Fettas and the other place said that after 45 min they had a free spot for us) so we decided that we wanted only to have a drink.

So the waiter finally came. And said very annoyed: what do you want? I was thinking: (ok and hello to you as well, jfc) and said: do you maybe have the menu? Then he became really annoyed by the fact that I even asked: no we only do mezes. Me: but can I see the wine list because I want to order a bottle of wine? He: no. this table is only for food. I was like oooooohkee. First you let us wait for 25 minutes before you give us any attention, and then you are giving me...

A friend of mine recommend this place, so me and my flatmate decided to try it out. Booked a table, but when we arrived we had to wait 30 mins cause they made confusion with the booking and put it down later that we actually booked. While we were waiting we could see the confusion between the waiters. I have to say it was quite disorganized. They were taking extra tables out of a window to have more tables available. Our table was free, but still had stuff from the previous customers and it took them 15 mins to clear it up. Finally we managed to sit and we ordered meat meze. Plenty of food, but not very tasty. For example the grilled halloumi tasted like the burnt sausage they brought us together. The price was ok, 20€ per person for the meze, but I found cheaper and better places.
