Souvlakia Mixalos — Restaurant in Paphos Municipality

I really do not get all the positive reviews. We looked this place up online (they got an award for best souvlaki) but either they had a very bad day or the award means nothing, as this wasn't even in the top 5 we ate this holiday. Staff outside was rude, no greeting, looked like he hated everything around him, I though it was because we are tourists but he was also very rude to locals. Partner had large souvlaki and I had the mix grill, both of which the souvlaki was very, Very dry. Even worse were the fries, which were still half raw, inedible. Some of the other meat on the mix grill was decent, but just okay. That at least earned the 2 stars instead of one. When the bill came we didn't speak the whole transaction, I thanked him but no response, no greeting or thanks, very weird. When we left there was another couple that asked us if our waiter was also very rude. All in all better spend your money elsewhere. 5* reviews must be fake, as literally everyone that has ever eaten anything can't honestly give this 5 stars. Food: 3, staff 1.

After we were seated, the waiter threw the menus on the table even without looking at us. That was the moment I felt we might not be in the right place to have our meals. Unfortunately, later it turned out that I was right. We were a group of 8 and ordered chicken kebab and pork souvlaki. The portion was big but we got huge chunks of dry meat with dry pita. It felt like we got some meat, salad and bread separately. When we asked for a dressing, we got 3 tzatziki which seemed to be the waiter's choice to bring 3 instead of 1. During the service we were left alone, nobody cared about us. Even when we left the place, we didn't get any greetings back. We felt like we were doing a favour to the restaurant to be there to have our meals. The service was poor and the waiter was unpleasant. We definitely won't visit this place again! This was clearly a busy night for them, but that's no excuse for what was served to us. We ordered the grill "meze"(mixed grill), the starters were great, perfectly cooked and good quantity. Then when the main dishes started coming, it went downhill from there. Perfectly cooked on one side, burned on the other. More meat came, same deal, burned and some decent. Even the pita bread was burned on one side. We left almost 70% of the meat on the plates and when I notified the person in charge about it, he didn't even look at the meat, he just responded "the kitchen is a bit out of order today" and left... 😑 He knew what he served, he could've apologised for it, he made it worse. Could've been a 4-5 star for sure, but after what he said, there's no second chance...
