I would like to begin by saying that I do not usually leave negative reviews, but on this occasion I feel obliged to do so, right after we have finished our dinner tonight. The part that was most disappointing about the experience was the female waitress that had assisted us.
The food quality was good, we cannot complain about that. Of course, like any tourist we have wanted to try the meze as a dinner, on our last night in Paphos. We were informed that it is quite late for it (21:30) but that they will try.
When the first part of the dinner arrived, the part that was mostly multiple dips, we were not served any bread. We found this very odd as you cannot eat dips like hummus without bread. We asked our waitress for bread and surprisingly she said that she is not sure if they have any bread left and that she will look to see if they have any. As you may imagine, this was a not so amusing as I cannot fathom how a restaurant can just simply not have bread. Ok, on a rare occurrence this can happen and it’s not the end of the world, but it would have been great if this was told before we ordered a meal that had appetisers that were mandatory to eat with bread.
In the end, we waited for a couple of minutes without any change and asked another waiter for bread. Funnily enough, after a couple of minutes they both came with two baskets of bread one after the other, but the bread was different.
The meal was a bit rushed, but this was our mistake as we were informed that the kitchen closes at 22 and that it was going to be a bit fast for its size.
The rest of the night until the end went ok as we were just trying to eat the amount of food served.
At some point, another lady came to ask how we were and we found this really nice. We later found out that she might be the one that owns the restaurant. We are sorry for her that we have to write a review like this.
At the end, we had some dishes that we could not finish, and we asked if we can have them to go. This is normal for a meze as there are a lot of dishes and obviously, a lot of food.
The young lady that was supposed to be the waitress said “no problem” and brought us the box to put our food to take to go. This was really surprising and somehow rude, as for one she had a bad attitude for the whole night, but even more so because you expect to not have to put 3 completely different dishes in a to go box yourself for a dinner that was not taken at the corner fast food store or from Lidl.
We did not complain on the spot about this as we did not want to be rude but we asked the other waiter that was there when he brought us the check if this was the procedure when people ask for food to be taken to go, and he said that they are not allowed to take the food in the back to put it in the box and that this was how they did it. In this whole time in which we were talking, the female waitress was standing a few meters back, when the restaurant was completely empty, listening to our conversation and staring at us.
In the end, we paid 54 euros for two people and the experience was so disappointing that it was funny, we even joked that the only way the situation would have been worse was if the waitress brought us a plastic bag instead of a box to package our leftover food to go.
Needless to say, with great sadness for the nice owner, and partly for the first waiter that sent us to the table, we will never return to dine again, or recommend this to anyone...
Read moreTotally amazing!! Where do I start,! We booked this Taverna for our wedding reception after our initial reception venue through our wedding planner double booked and cancelled on us. I stumbled upon a few places but the windmill caught my eye as we wanted a traditional taverna. We reached out with a million questions and a lady called Nancy came back to me so quickly and could honestly not have been more friendly, kind and able to put me at ease with every answer to my many questions. Nothing was too much trouble. She send me photos of table displays, candles, colour options, favours etc etc...all I had to do was pick what I wanted and when we arrived after our wedding everything was 100% PERFECT. We had Greek dancers too which we hired and were Nancy's idea and we were so glad we did as they were wonderful and so much fun. The canopes were great and the main bbq mezze was incredible. I'm vegetarian and the food was honestly absolutely beautiful. So delicious and it just kept coming....plate after plate of stunning traditional food. The food is honestly superb. My 22 month old daughter had an hour long tantrum and Nancy was super kind and couldn't have helped any more to calm her down so we could enjoy things. We will never forget Nancy and her kindness and the team and her parents for cooking such a beautiful meal. I could not recommend highly enough if great food, a traditional setting and lots of fun are what you are looking for in a wedding reception venue. And Nancy hasn't paid me to say this 🤣🤣🤣 it genuinely has been perfect in every way. Thank you from the bottom of our hearts. Michelle &...
Read moreAmazing place, best restaurant we ate at in Cyprus. We ordered the vegan meze which were absolutely delightful. There was a selection of around 10 different meze which were all original and delicious. The portion is indicated for a minimum of 2 people and costs 40€ but we shared it between 3 people and it was plenty. Only note is that the price was unclear in the menu, which indicated the price as 20€ for 2 people, when it was actually 20€ x 2 people = 40€. Nevertheless, 40€ was a fair price for the quality and quantity of food that comes in the vegan meze. There was such a great variety of dishes than I can’t recall most of them. I do remember a green salad with vegan feta, vegan tzatziki, an aubergine dish, cous cous and more. The standout meze for me were definitely the fava bean dip with caramelised onions and the ‘chic’en cauliflower wings. Also good to keep in mind they keep bringing meze to your table as you’re eating, which is great so that you can try things a bit at a time and have them warm. I have to mention the bread because it was super soft, warm, toasted in olive oil and sprinkled with zaatar on top, truly heavenly. Lastly, we ordered vegan baklava and vegan chocolate cake for dessert, both of which were divine. The baklava was warm which was unexpected but still worked, and it came with strawberry ice cream which was also excellent. They even had vegan apple pie which I imagine would’ve been just as good. Compared to other restaurants in Cyprus this one was far superior and an absolute must if you’re in the Paphos area, wish I could’ve gone back a...
