Staff were nice enough. Setting was nice as there's a blossom tree in the middle of the restaurant. Food however was absolutely awful. We went off recommendations from someone who said it was 'nice'. I'm shocked to see so many 5* reviews after the food my family ate. I've lived in Cyprus for over a year now and I can't remember eating a meal so bad that it put me off food for the rest of the day. I ordered the calamari, I know it's frozen and that doesn't bother me. I wasn't expecting one large massive calamari. Anyway, I tucked in to my carrots to begin with which I can't describe as under cooked. I would describe them more as completely raw, I did tell the waiter who offered to bring more carrots but I wasn't so interested in the carrots so I said no. From that point the waiter had no interest in asking how my meal was as I left all the veg, potatoes and half the calamari. Clearly if someone doesn’t eat the food then it’s probably pretty bad. The potatoes were also barely warm. The calamari was rubbery and stuffed with tomatoes and feta. Feta tasted very bland, I'm guessing very cheap feta and by the end my plate was just swimming in liquid from however the calamari was cooked. Calamari in general just had zero taste to it. My wife had the lamb shank which she said wasn't that bad but it literally had next to none of the sauce it said it should come with. Same problem with my wife's meal, veg raw and not very hot.
34 euro for our lunch including 2 drinks which was definitely not cheap to say I felt sick after eating barely any of it, we 100% will not be eating here again or recommending the restaurant to anyone.
Maybe it wasn't the smartest idea ordering calamari from somewhere we haven't eaten before as it is quite hard to make nice calamari when it’s not fresh especially but the fact that you can't even cook carrots and re warm pre cooked potatoes to an adequate temperature then honestly not worth my time or my hard earned money coming back to try...
Read moreWe recently visited Hippocampus in Protaras and had an incredible experience. The food was absolutely delicious, and I must say, I had the best sushi I've ever tasted. The lamb chops were cooked to perfection and the mango salad with chicken was a delightful combination of flavors. For dessert we shared a caramel cheesecake which was the perfect end to a fantastic meal.
The staff at Hippocampus were extremely attentive and friendly, especially Angelos, Kyriakos, and Georgiana. Their service was top-notch, and they made sure we had everything we needed throughout the evening. We were seated on the rooftop, which offered a beautiful view and a romantic atmosphere. The addition of table lamps added a cozy touch to the ambiance.
Although it was a bit windy during our visit, the restaurant provided blankets to keep us warm and comfortable. However, I must mention one minor issue. I felt a bit pushed by one of the waitresses who suggested I shouldn't order a starter because it would delay my main course due to the busyness of the restaurant. I believe it's not something you should say to a customer, as it made me feel rushed. Nonetheless, this small incident did not overshadow the overall experience.
I highly recommend Hippocampus to anyone looking for a memorable dining experience in Protaras. The delicious food, attentive service, and romantic rooftop setting make it a perfect choice for a special occasion or a romantic night out. Ps: I regrett I forget to make photos at...
Read moreOkay, so the vibe was awesome. The service could've been top-notch, but there was this family of six across from us. Two of them wanted to smoke, and they suggested they move back a row and smoke near us... seriously, there's a garden!
Food-wise: the vegan sushi starter was alright. But when avocado's the main thing, it should be amazing. It wasn't! Same with the mangoes. The vegan ravioli... what a disaster! The dough wasn't cooked, I could still taste the flour, and the filling was solid. It was bland and swimming in a bland red sauce with apple and edamame beans on top... totally didn't work! Seafood tagliatelle: first off, the pasta wasn't tagliatelle... it was flat noodles. Not a huge deal, but then it was mixed with roasted onions and peppers (I'd rather have garlic or parsley or wine, you know?). Then they added some seafood mix. The sauce and pasta didn't soak up the fish flavor, so it didn't cook together properly. Two out of ten. Such a letdown, especially since they have a separate vegan menu. But again, the fusion style just didn't work. Oh, and I almost forgot... classic mojito: that's a basic cocktail for me, and if you can't get that right, it says a lot. It was awful. No...
