I gave myself a second thought about whether I should leave this review. But since it’s my honest experience, here we are.
Perry’s Beach Restaurant certainly looks like a lovely place to dine. However, much like a good psychological thriller, little unpleasant details began to appear one by one, gradually building that nagging feeling that something wasn’t quite right. If it hadn’t been for the final straw, I probably would’ve just sighed and moved on.
At first glance, everything seemed perfect: a lush, sweet garden setting with prices high enough to suggest that simple dishes would be executed flawlessly. After all, when you charge fine-dining prices for everyday Cypriot staples, you’d expect at least a touch of magic. But alas, the magic act quickly went wrong.
I ordered orange juice for my kids. The drinks arrived, and I immediately knew something was off. I’ve had hundreds of orange juices in my life and these tasted like the kind of “multi-fruit beverage” you find at the back of a discount supermarket shelf. Then came the starter: a green salad served with the most uninspired slice of plain white bread I’ve encountered in Cyprus. I wasn’t even sure what to do with it. Still, after a long day, hunger won.
Then came the main course: pork souvlaki — a dish so universal it’s nearly impossible to mess up. Somehow, they managed it. It was one of the blandest plates I’ve ever had, and believe me, I don’t say that lightly. The menu promised three vegetable sides. The combination that arrived was: marinated peas, beans, and boiled carrots! I couldn’t help wondering: was this a daring foray into experimental cuisine, or a bold contender for the “Most Ironic Plate of the Year” award?
But wait, the plot thickens. When I asked my kids how they liked their plain spaghetti with cheese from the kids’ menu, they hesitated and said it tasted “different” from home. Different, indeed. When I tried it, I could swear it both smelled and tasted as if it had gone off. Now, I know what you’re thinking — how can spaghetti go bad? Excellent question. The only alternative explanation I could come up with was that they seasoned the children’s meal with wine vinegar. Because nothing says kids’ menu like a dash of acetic acid, right?
And then came the prompt finale: the host swiftly brought us the bill, without even pretending to ask how the meal was. Maybe she noticed us sniffing the kids’ plates and decided not to risk the answer.
Why didn’t I make a scene? Because I hate those. And, true to my optimistic nature, I still cling to the faint hope that maybe it was vinegar...
Read moreThe restaurant boasts a great location – just a stone’s throw from the beach, making it a perfect spot for lunch or dinner with a sea breeze and lovely views. One of the highlights is the atmospheric patio, full of greenery and charm, especially in the evening.
The food was very tasty – fresh ingredients, well-seasoned dishes, and you can really tell there’s heart in the cooking. The owners seem genuinely involved and present, which adds to the overall warm and welcoming vibe. A nice touch was the complimentary watermelon served after we asked for the bill – small gestures like that leave a lasting impression.
Prices are a bit on the high side, particularly considering the area, but still within reason given the quality of the food and setting. Worth noting: there are quite a few cats roaming around, which some might find cute, while others may see it as a downside.
Unfortunately, what really spoiled the experience were the wasps. They swarmed our food to the point where eating became nearly impossible. It was frustrating and disappointing, especially given how enjoyable everything else was.
All in all, this place has a lot of potential with its great atmosphere, dedicated staff, and delicious food – but addressing the issue with the wasps would make a...
Read moreIt was the first night of our holiday and we were enticed into Perry's restaurant with the promise of the best moussaka in town. Sadly, this was not to be... three of us had the moussaka which was obviously microwaved as some potato was crusty and dry. There was no taste to the dish - lacking in herbs and spices and general flavour. The accompanying vegetables were stone cold. The waitress didn't check in with us to make sure everything was ok; when she came to clear the half eaten dishes and full vegetable terrine, I expressed that we were disappointed- her reaction was to spin on her heels and storm off! She then returned and said how shocked she was that we didn't enjoy it as she's been serving it all day. She was very curt with us for the rest of the evening! Perry sent over a glass of wine each and a plate of tasteless melon - there is a theme running through this restaurant. Another of our group had the seafood spaghetti containing one mussel, one large prawn, one piece of squid and a few, obviously frozen, tiny prawns. I would recommend that if you'd like a traditional tasty moussaka, the Hideaway in Pissouri Square is the...
