A Hidden Gem in Prague 9 – Deserves More Recognition (October 4, 2025)
I had a truly pleasant experience at Kyoto in Prague 9. From the regular menu, I ordered the chicken tom yum and the hot seafood platter. Both dishes were beautifully presented and genuinely delicious. The flavors were well-balanced—no overpowering sauces, just clean, thoughtful cooking. The seafood was grilled just right, and I was pleasantly surprised by the generous amount of mushrooms and shrimp. I had never tried mushrooms with shrimp before, and it turned out to be a new favorite combination.
The staff were extremely polite and professional throughout our visit. The beer selection was solid, offering more variety than expected. The atmosphere of the restaurant is calm and refined: leather chairs in excellent condition, lacquered wooden tables, tastefully decorated walls, and elegant lighting. The clientele was civilized and respectful, which added to the overall peaceful vibe.
Kyoto stands in stark contrast to many Czech restaurants nearby, which often feature worn-out interiors, wooden benches, and poorly cleaned surfaces. I honestly don’t understand why such a well-maintained and high-quality place has a lower rating compared to some of the grimy pubs around that cater to cheap beer drinkers. Kyoto deserves far more...
Read more1 star is way too much for the horrible dining experience we had here. We came there as a group of 6 for my birthday. 3 of six people had to throw up during dinner because the food was old, dry and disgusting. When we first arrived there they told us the buffet will be 360ckz, there was a sign that said so as well. However when we had to pay they suddenly chose that the buffet costa 528ckz?? And after us asking they denied it. Since 3 of us threw up and we barely ate anything we told the waitres we’re not willing to pay full price, the waitress didn’t understand what we’re saying. When she finally got our complaints she said she heard me throw up but only offered a 10percent discount which is a joke. We insisted until she gave in and let us pay “only” 360ckz saying the personal will pay the rest? While we talked to the waitress she had to get feedback from her boss who didn’t speak English and permanently yelled at her. I feel real sorry for her she was actually the only person who did her job. While we had our unpleasant dining experience the personal(probably 15 people) where just standing around not doing anything except staring at us…all over worst dinner ever, a health department visit is...
Unfortunately, we ended up eating at this wok and sushi place only because all the other restaurants were closed. We often eat Asian dishes and at restaurants with Asian staff, but here the coldness of the service was really annoying. We arrived late, at 9:00 PM, but it was not closing until 10:30 PM. Instead of eating at the buffet, we preferred to order à la carte since it was late and we wanted just one dish. Not speaking Czech, we communicated in English, explaining our situation. We were given menus only in Czech, which we barely understood thanks to the pictures. I understand that a restaurant is not obliged to have menus in foreign languages, but being in the capital, in an area with international hotels, where even the small nearby Asian restaurant, which is much better, has menus in English, it is really a major shortfall. We ordered, the food was decent but not outstanding, however, the chicken was served completely raw, unfortunately left there, even though we didn't know it was chicken since the menu was not understandable. Given the disappointing service and the overall low quality, we definitely do not recommend it. A thousand times better are other nearby Asian places where, for the same price, you get the same quantity, much tastier, and with a smile and kindness included in...
