SOU100 Žižkov — Restaurant in Prague

I have some mixed feelings about visiting Sou100. The food was great and the beer selection OK. Prices very reasonable and the decor is modern and very nice.

The only thing I would fault is the cold reception I got on both my visits. Nothing went particularly wrong, but I just didn’t feel welcome - and it was my first day/night in Prague. I get it that this is mostly a place for locals (although they have a menu in English too), but it would be nice to maybe have the same warmer attitude towards visitors as towards the locals. Some members of staff spoke some English but there was nothing in the service that would make a foreign customer feel welcome (and I even tried a few words in my broken Czech).

I mean, fewer tourists come down to Zizkov, if I’m here it means I want to see the real Prague and where the locals go..maybe just appreciating my custom more would be nice. It’s the small things, acknowledging my presence (just as the staff seems to be doing with the locals) rather than just bringing me food, pay and goodbye. You don’t need to speak English to show a bit more warmth - but maybe it’s just how Czech hospitality goes?

So really sad because the place is great...

Went there for dinner at the recommendation of the receptionist in our hotel.

When we got there, the place was almost empty. The host showed us to a table for 2. As we made our way in, I picked up a menu in Czech and was trying to make out what's on it. Fortunately, the host handed us 2 menus in English.

We ordered 2 shandies, a Coke, one soup, a chicken cordon bleu with mashed potatoes and beef cheek with gravy and mash.

Both dishes were very tasty. The cordon bleu was crispy on the outside. Both second course dishes were made to order, as they did take around 15 minutes to arrive.

During our meal, no checkback was made, hence why we didn't leave any tips.

Overall this was a good local...

Úterý 21:30, dorazili jsme s manželkou do poloprázdné hospody, přesto byla spousta stolů označena cedulkou s rezervací. Proto jsme si trochu zklamaně sedli za roh do bočního křídla, kde seděli ještě 2 lidé. 5-10 minut se nic nedělo, tak jsem se šel zeptat na bar, jestli se za rohem obsluhuje, nebo ne. Číšník zrovna vycházel, že jde k nám. Objednali jsme si jídlo a pivo (Birell a Plzeň). Plzeň rozhodně nebyla k chlubení, Birrel byl tak maximálně 0,4. Následně donesli jídlo, které bylo výborné, ale už se ani nezastavili zeptat, jestli si dáme další nápoje. Během jídla se servírka sešla z baru dokonce podívat ke vstupu a viděla nás, že tam jsme, ale opět se nikdo nepřišel zeptat na další přání. Po dlouhých minutách se zjevil číšník. Zeptali jsme se na domácí limonádu a řekl nám, že to určitě nejde, že tam je frmol (to jsem už opravdu zadržoval smích), ale řekli jsme, že tedy znovu poprosíme Plzeň a Birell. Číšník se sebral a odešel s práznou sklednicí od Birellu, prázdné talíře na stole nechal. Během následujících 10 minut se nic nedělo, jen číšník se rozloučil se zbytkem personálu a odešel pryč. Cca ve 22:20 jsem se sebral s talíři a půlitrem a odnesl to na bar s tím, že Plzeň a Birell si už bohužel nedáme. Na baru mě přivítala evidentně podnapilá servírka se slovy, že to "mohu klidně položit támhle." Pán za barem vypadal velmi unaveně, ale omlouval se, že ty dva Birelly ještě nejsou. Odpověděl jsem, že to měla být Plzeň a Birell, a že to ani čepovat nemusí, že zaplatím, ale že dýško opravdu dát nemohu. Velmi se omlouval, ale zkušenost opravdu strašná. Abych nezapomněl, v hospodě opravdu frmol nebyl :) O to víc mrzí fakt, že podnik je velmi hezký a vaří opravu výborně. Ale když obsluha nemá nejmenší chuť do práce a ještě k tomu jsou někteří opilí, tak to opravdu nedělá dobrou reklamu. Chápu, že sehnat lidi do pohostinství je teď těžké. Chápu, že za rohem od baru nemusí být úplně přehled a je to přes dvoje schody. Chápu, že už se tešili na konce šichty, ale znechucený brigádník a opilá servírka jsou vizitka spíš nějakého nonstopu, než podniku, který si potrpí...
