Update (2022-04-12): TanTan Ramen is back on the menu!
small Update (2022-02-16): TAN TAN Ramen was taken off the menu :( but replaced with a Curry Ramen. It's still delicious, but TAN TAN was really something. Let's see if there will be other changes in the near future.
Ramen - my daughter (Japan-fan) and I went to Gaijin Ramen for our lunch. We both ordered the TanTan Ramen, she got a sports-coke, I took a homemade ice tea. Gaijin Ramen is located 10 minutes easy walk from the main shopping area in Aarhus. Easy to find and around 12:30 not too crowded. We ordered at took a nice seat at a big table. The waiter explained the dishes and answered all our questions. He was very kind. The food was amazing - not that I can compare Ramen or could value good Ramen, but the taste was deep, rich and full of flavors. Although it shouldn't be spicy I and my daughter could taste the spices. It was ok for me, but for my daughter a little too much. But all in all a good dish - a bit pricey, but ok for Denmark.
We might join this Ramen Shop again during our next visits in this lovely town!
Oh yeah, the icetea was delicious, a bit too sweet for my taste though! But thanks for...
Read moreTo begin, this establishment does not take reservations under 5 people - so expect to wait (roughly 10 to 15 minutes) to be seated. The ramen (which I expect is the star of the show) was somewhat underwhelming. The buckwheat noodles are extremely cooked to perfection, and the broth is very good.
However, the portion size of the bowls is somewhat small (enough to feel full, but not enough to be satisfied with for the price of 120 DKK per bowl). The vegan option (which can be made vegetarian by adding half of an egg) was good but lacked to offer more (perhaps tofu with as the "protein" rather than just vegetables).
Draft Ichiban - I have yet to see anywhere in Arhus - it is a must! Extremely crisp and served in a chill glass.
Overall, considering this is somewhat a chain (as they have a location in Copenhagen as well), I expected something more for the value of money.
Side Note: it is possible to order refill of noodles for 25 DKK but no more broth is really added to the bowl and witness other diners leaving a majority of their noodles when this was the...
Read moreThe ramen was very Al dente. The meat was tender, but the flavour was slightly off. The broth was a bit lackluster. I think the meat may have made it a bit off flavour. The rest of the ingredients meshed well. I had the shoyu Ramen. Especially the pork fat on the meat was flavourless and oddly porous.
For the price charged I don't expect the meat, in my opinion the flavour highlight, to taste like that.
Atmosphere is nice, everything is clean. Staff is super friendly. Prices are a bit high for what you get. 120 for a ramen bowl. Then I expect extreme quality. For the price point, I felt the food didn't deliver.
I would expect to pay 50-60 for ramen like this. The noodles cannot be Al dente. The brothflavour must have had at least a little time to seep into the noodles.
If I wasn't so disappointed about the meat it would have been an excellent experience. However, not sure I am willing to give them a second chance considering it will run me 120kr...
