Cafe Gavlen — Restaurant in Copenhagen Municipality

I stumbled across Cafe Gavlen on a Thursday night walking around Sankt Hans Torv area and noticed that there was a healthy amount of clientele inside. Interested in going to places where "the people" go, I noted it as a place to try, and carried on.

Finally came back for brunch. Not trying to be a snob here, but it's certainly not the best brunch in Copenhagen (which can be found at Manfreds and Vin). It's not horrible either, though. The service is a little confusing (could not figure out who was to take my order and not a single person on staff would make eye contact with anyone in the bar, so you generally felt like you were disturbing someone in order to eat or drink), but the coffee is good (once you get it). All in all, if you live in the area, and you need brunch, it scratches the itch just fine.

The food was very good but the service really bad.

When we arrived we sat down but no one showed up. So I tried to get the menu at the counter but the waiters didn't even look at me (even though they were there). So I just took two menus. When we wanted to order no one came and asked, so we ordered at the counter again.

After some 20 minutes our food arrived and the waiter realized that we also ordered drinks and asked again what. Then they brought it. After the meal we waited a very long time until someone would get our plates. We even wanted to order dessert but they neither asked us when the plates were taken, nor did they come back. So we left.

I don't know why they didn't want our money. I was even very close of leaving the place. Too bad they seem not to train the waiters because the food was actually...

The place itself it's the typical cozy bar in CPH but the bartender is awful. We ask for cocktails at 10 p.m. and he said that since they close at midnight he wouldn't do cocktails anymore at that time. What kind of BS is that is the only thing I can comment on that. Will never be back to this place and not bc of the place but because of the lazy unfriendly...
