Café del Fraile — Restaurant in Centro Histórico

A complete disaster from the start to finish!! I rarely leave negative reviews, but this experience was so unbelievably bad that I feel obligated to warn others. From the moment we walked in, it was clear that customer service was not a priority. The staff barely acknowledged us, and when they finally did, they acted as if we were inconveniencing them by simply being there.

After an unreasonably long wait, our food arrived cold, bland, and borderline inedible. The meat was overcooked yet somehow still dry, the sides were either underseasoned or drowning in oil, and the portions were inconsistent. To make matters worse, our drinks took forever to arrive, and when they finally did, they were wrong. Twice.

But the absolute worst part came at the end. When we got the bill, we noticed a mandatory service tip had been added. When we questioned it—because, let’s be honest, tipping is for good service, and there was none—the waiter rudely insisted that it was required by law. Spoiler alert: It’s not. It was nothing more than an attempt to squeeze extra money out of customers who had already suffered through a terrible meal.

I went to grab a coffee with two mates, I took the "café del fraile" which is like a moccacino with cream at the top and bits of cheese- it was very good I like it quite a lot. It is quite hard to get the service to attend you to get the bill, which is kinda off-putting but nothing too bad. I went several times before the pandemic to lunch and the food used to be great, the filet mignon was my favourite! Although very touristy, Cafe Del Fraile is a beautiful restaurant with many stunning views, depending on where you sit.

I decided to try the Shrimp Ceviche and Beef Empanada, which were delicious. However, I wasn’t too much of a fan of the beef steak, which in my opinion, was a little subpar in texture and taste. The classic margaritas were also a bit watery.
