Awful, awful, awful.....
My experience with this restaurant was very unpleasant. • To begin Mr. CUENCA, who was in charge of our service, started to talking me in an impolitely way, in Spanish (“tutear”) at least 4 times. I don't know how a restaurant of that standing could allowed to make these kind of mistakes. And worst of all, when I told him off, he played dumb, and he flatly denied it in front of my 3 colleagues who witnessed his lack of respect. • Then my husband ordered a güitig (a mineral water) then he rectified and asked for a pineapple juice. In case of doubts I repeated Mr. CUENCA a second time to cancel the güitig and only to bring the pineapple juice. However this man couldn't care less about i told him, he brought to my husband the pineapple juice and the opened bottle of güitig ready to drink. When I mentioned it to him, he played dumb again saying he hadn't understand. • Then he offered us the wine list and we told him that we wished not drink any wine. As he saw that 2 of my colleagues were european foreigners, he tried to persuade them to consume wines. I had to reiterate my answer several times because he kept insisting on offering “a supposed discount” on these drinks. • And as for the menu, you pay 4 times more than in any restaurant, only for an poor imitation of good gastronomy. I ordered an octopus salad for $ 15 or so. That dish was tasteless, without salt, without lemon, without olive oil, without a sauce on the side, ...anything. At least in Europe the salad is accompanied with bread, nothing here. It was octopus chopped with tomato and passed to the plate. I love octopus, but I have never tasted such a tasteless octopus in my life. The only good thing, the presentation. We could go to another restaurant nearby where it is possible to eat very delicious and the quality-cost relationship is very good. However we decided to try in Ecuador, a restaurant of a higher level, which we were used to in Europe. None of the 4 people who went were satisfied with what we asked for.
We felt ripped off, full of sound and fury, full of hot air, or as it's says in Spanish ( "mucho ruido para...
Read moreThe place is beautiful, the painting on the walls, the view to the plaza. Th service was wonderful as well. Other than that it felt to me a bit like a tourist restaurant, I was honestly a bit disappointed by the food considering the price, it was satisfying, but not as delicious as I would expect. For the same price I got much better value in other places. Non the less the food was good it was nicely played, I got the famous potatoe soup, I felt like they should have mentioned it comes with so much avocado as I don't eat avocado, but I just removed it. The soup came with really good bread that was I think black from zinc, delicious bread, maybe the best part of the meal, I also got the Ecuadorian ceviche, it was fine, maybe not my cup of tea, they leave it to die and overcook in it's marinade, I know this is how they make it. Don't like it. Possibly would have better enjoyed different dishes but it was my first night in Quito and I wanted to try the local cuisine. In any case, good enough restaurant, they also took me to get a taxi as it was after dark and had everything arranged, so like I said service was really good. The sangria...
Read moreThe restaurant is on the second floor of the Archbishop's Palace and has beautiful views. The service was ok. The food quality was ok, nothing out of the ordinary and the portions normal if not small. Given the price I was expecting really amazing food but was disappointed. I ordered the shrimp encocado and the texture and the flavor were just ok and the portions were very small. The menu is really overpriced, you are paying for the views, this is perhaps great for a special occasion or a romantic date. Or if you are a tourist!
I refuse to pay $15 plus 22% taxes for a Fritada or $17++ for a Seco de Chivo, ridiculously overpriced. I felt like paying NY prices.
I won't come back again. I'm sure there are good alternatives to the views with fantastic food and would happily pay the price.
The specials are $25, crazy price for a fatty meat (ribs) with grocery store bought bbq sauce.
Do not...
