Korean house is one of the very few restaurants in Helsinki where you can satisfy your cravings for Korean food. The menu in the restaurant is much broader than what it is advertised on their website. Thus, first comers may have a hard time trying to decide what to order, especially if you are not familiar with Korean food. Nevertheless, upon request the staff may give you some hints. My friend ordered bulgogi beef which is perfect for those who are not used to eating spicy foods, while I got the spicy kimchee pork with tofu. The bulgogi beef was sweet as it is marinated in a sauce made of apples and pears. However, the beef was tough and it lacked the characteristic grilled flavour as it was pan fried. On the other hand, my spicy pork had a very nice quick to it, but it was greasy and too salty. I was sort of disappointed that Korean house didn't offer free side dishes (panchan) as it is common in Korean restaurant around the world. Overall, if you are new to Korean food this might be a good place to start. However, if you have visited Korean restaurants in places such as NY or Seoul, you might find that the food at Korean House is acceptable but it lacks balance and a certain something to be truly...
Read moreI ordered a Sundubu-jjigae which had a V (in green) sign. But when it got served, it had egg on top of it. When asked the staff said that I ordered the one which had even fish in it. It turns out that they have two dish options with the exact same name one with fish and other without it. My first complaint was that why wasn't I asked when I ordered the dish if I wanted the veg or the non-veg one knowing they both had the same name. Then the staff was kind enough to replace my order with the other one however I was served again with eggs. While I am also at fault that I didn't notice the eggs mentioned there, why has the restaurant used V before the dish. If it can be vegan they should mention "can be made Vegan" instead of using the V symbol. In addition, when the staff did agree to replace the dish, shouldn't they mention/ask that the other dish has eggs, and if that is okay or not? Food was good, I'm not going to complain about that but they need to be more professional about...
Read moreOne of the few authentic Korean restaurants in Helsinki run by Koreans. Located in Kruununhaka, which is close to Helsinki University and about 15 minutes walking distance from Helsinki Central Railway station. They had lunch menu, and the restaurant was busy with full of Korean tourists and local customers. Most of their staff are Koreans, and they were friendly and polite. I ordered stir-fried pork from its lunch menu. It was served in a generous portion with a separate bowl of salad, which I found was really nice, but to be honest, the taste was pretty much average for Koreans. I kept looking at what those Korean tourists were eating , and their dishes, which looked like pre-arranged set menu, looked a lot more yummy with more side dishes. I hope they could also offer a Korean style lunch set menu that also includes 2 or 3 side dishes. Maybe I should try other...
