Kaskis in Turku is a hidden gem that seamlessly marries culinary excellence with warm, attentive service. Located in a cozy, albeit slightly snug, setting, the restaurant offers an intimate dining experience that feels both sophisticated and welcoming. The quality of the food is nothing short of exceptional. Each dish is a testament to the chef's skill, featuring a well-thought-out balance of local ingredients and innovative techniques. From the first bite to the last, the flavors are vibrant, carefully layered, and beautifully presented.
The wine selection is equally impressive, with pairings that elevate the dining experience. The staff’s knowledge and enthusiasm about the wine list are evident, enhancing the overall meal. Kaskis also surprises with an outstanding pour-over coffee, sourced from a local roastery, that is a perfect way to end the meal on a high note.
The only slight drawback is the restaurant's limited space, which can feel a bit cramped during peak times. However, this is easily overshadowed by the superb quality of the food, the attentive service, and the overall ambiance that makes you feel like a valued guest.
In a city known for its burgeoning food scene, Kaskis stands out as a must-visit for both locals and travelers seeking a memorable dining experience. Despite the minor issue of space, the restaurant’s commitment to excellence in every other aspect makes it a top...
Read moreThis small restaurant had only a dozen tables, with quaint residential kitchen decor - drying herbs, pickling jars - and was, on my crowded weekday holiday dinner visit, unfortunately, a bit louder than expected. Probably because of reflective ceiling panels. And half of the restaurant walls are sound-reflecting windows.
But, the servers seem very attentive and quick. The chefs, in their t-shirts, baseball caps and aprons, are quite visible, working in the partially open kitchen, and assisting the servers with plate présentation.
The chefs spent a lot of time in front of us, perfecting each dish with tweezers. Because, about a third of the presentations had a very meticulous, but specifically geometric, plating. Such as perfect circles of 40 circles, or teardrops, or ellipses. Personally, I encourage each Chef to execute and present their individual vision. But, maybe limit the number of plates that appear to be assembled with a protractor and compass.
The scallop, cucumber and buttermilk dish was excellent, as was the 64th version (so far) of their signature “Fish Circle,” of crab, whitefish, apple and beurre blanc. I was also pleased with the local beef, sweetbreads and summer truffle plate.
In any event, I enjoyed myself, and will have to return.

Read moreYes!! After having eaten at several Michelin star restaurants in 2024, I am so very happy to give Kaskis a 5 start review. I live in Turku and I feel that my previous visits to kaskis have fallen a little short with a few weak courses throughout the evening. However, this is the first time we visited after they have received their first start, and it was really really good. Every course was on point, with perfect balance of flavours and HIGH end techniques. Perfect combination of simple dishes and also very very highly skilled/complicated dishes were served. Wine pairing was great and the non alcohol pairing was equally impressive. This was a TRUE Michelin star level cooking. In my opinion, the timing of the courses could be a little faster as at times we were getting a little bored with the wait and seeing that the dining room is small and there are people very close to you, you are not able to have a very intimate conversation. However this is not a bad thing, just more so a personal preference. All in all, fantastic menu and I cannot wait to be back. Huge congratulations to the...
