During our ski vacation in Val Thorens, we visited La Maison tonight, anticipating it greatly after enjoying two or three wonderful dinners there in previous years. However, the experience turned out to be terrible and awful.
The most distressing issue was finding hairs in my sister-in-law's meal not once, but twice. What exacerbated the situation was the waiter's attitude. Initially, he replaced the meal upon the first discovery, but when a hair was found again in the replacement, he simply removed it without uttering a word.
Growing impatient, we eventually requested the bill, and it was brought to us as if nothing had occurred. Seeking resolution, I spoke with the manager, outlining the numerous problems:
Finding hairs in the meal twice. Lack of forks for oysters and knives for butter. Main meal utensils placed directly on the table without any cloth or napkins. Absence of a spoon in the open salt container.
We had to request these items multiple times. Even for the cocktail, we had to remind the staff twice, and despite ordering the same cocktail, it had a different taste each time.
The manager's response was exceptionally rude, implying that we had placed the hairs in the food ourselves. He argued that it's normal in France not to provide a knife for butter and suggested negotiating a discount without offering any apology or expression of regret.
Even though the manager provided a 50% discount, it did little to alleviate the situation. No words of regret or a simple "sorry" were offered.
The overall experience was very unpleasant, despite...
Read moreMy husband and I visited La Maison for the first time 9 years ago during our Christmas trip to Val Thorens. We always dreamt of going back to this place and enjoying the special cheese fondue we had. Today our dream came true and we were back, with our 7-year-old daughter this time.
From the moment of entry, we were disappointed. They refused to seat us upstairs with a better view because they said it's for groups of 4. There were 3 of us, and upstairs was not busy at all.
We placed an order, which was challenging as the waiter's understanding of English was limited. Fondue wasn't even on the menu, so we had no idea on the price, but assumed it was fair and reasonable. We ordered tap water, but were given bottled and the waiter never replaced. We noticed the same "trick" was pulled on the table next to us.
The fondue was not what we remembered. It was quite average, and the bread pieces were not fresh and crusty, tasted more like leftover bread from yesterday or day before.
We were quite shocked to receive the bill of 100€ for this lunch. My husband and I shared an average-tasting cheese fondue and our daughter had spaghetti bolognese from kids menu section with a scoop of vanilla ice cream. We shared a bottle of still water between 3 of us. No wine! 100€!!!
It's shocking how touristy and commercial this place has become after all this time. I would not recommend going there. We will continue exploring Val Thorens for more food "gems", but...
Read moreThis restaurant does bot deserve it’s rating or the price. Let me tell you why…
The bartender was not very knowledgable and could only make cocktails on the menu. No classic cocktails is served here
The food is overpriced to a point that it disgusts me what is brought on the plates (except the pizza, its good but still pricy) the steak tartar for example is one of the most tasteless ones i’ve had with bad quality meat, and soggy fries.
The service is nonchalant and it is obvious they think they are above the customer. When we complained about two dishes the manager was brought and he explained to is that our opinions was not appreciated and the dishes is supposed to be as they are. After this our waitress mostly ignored us for the rest of the meal.
The toilets are dirty and filled with paper all over the floor.
This is a disgrace of a restaurant that places itself as a “top tier french/Italian restaurant. I would not recommend this...
