After eating at all of the well known restaurants in 1850 this is the one I’d advise not spending your money in. Yes, everywhere in 1850 is silly money but some can be somewhat justified by good food and good service. I read mixed reviews of La Mangeoire before visiting and almost didn’t book but thought we’d see for ourselves.
There is no justification here for the prices that they’ve come up with. ‘Rack of lamb’ isn’t served as a rack.. instead it is cutlets which is completely unacceptable for the price.
Waiters regularly ask if you would like more water. They do not open a bottle at the table and you would have no reason to think that water is not complimentary. When the bill arrived, €10 per bottle of water was added! When questioned, we were first told that it is bottled water that they open ready to pour. Then after we refused to pay for it as the bottles have no lids on and we wouldn’t know if they are simply refilling with tap water, a manager came to the table. He then advised that they have a €50,000 water filter system that they refill from and that the reason for the price. I have no doubt that this was a pack of lies. What water filter system costs €50,000?!?
To top it off, I was up that night being sick and also an upset stomach.
1 child, 3 adults, 2 starters, 3 mains, 1 child main, no wine and a bill of €560. There is a reason other places a 2 minute walk away are consistently fully booked and there was only a few other tables in here with us.
Listen to the other reviews and go elsewhere, I...
Read moreThis restaurant is appalling. We visited today with friends, a large group, and we were met with rude staff who instructed us we had to pay €3 per person to lean our skis, otherwise we had to walk to another stand further away…. Next we arrived at our table where bottled water, 4 sparkling/4 still, was put on the table. We did not ask for them or touch them but we were charged for them. Two truffle risottos were ordered and we were advised no fresh truffle was available but they still charged the ridiculous full price. Wagu Burgers were average at best. We were brought potatoes which we assumed were alongside the burgers as we did not order them separately, only to find out that we had been charged additional for the sides, an additional €80. We requested several meals that were not available. The staff ignored us through most of the meal. There wasn’t a reasonable wine on the list, cheapest €95. This is very obviously aimed at over indulgent, new money, crass people.. Out of politeness of the people we were dining with we all paid our share but it was not until we personally asked to look at the bill afterwards was it clear we had been so clearly taken advantage of. The restaurant is very cool looking, but don’t be fooled, the atmosphere is dull and uncomfortable. It is clear they have lost a certain type of clientele in recent times and it is empty, we can only hope it fails...
Read moreI don’t ever write google reviews but this deserved one. For this restaurant to be in the same class as La Casserole/L’Aventure/L’Anerie is a disgrace. Showed up and our table wasn’t ready for 20 minutes. Our starters were served at the same time as our main dishes. My steak was served and the sauce came 10 minutes after, by that point my steak was lukewarm. We were served escargot, then had to wait 5 minutes for the proper utensils which meant that the escargot were lukewarm (plus the escargot fork was too big for the shell so we couldn’t get them out). The sushi (ranging between $40-200 per roll) was honestly some of the worst sushi I have ever had, like worse than grocery store sushi. The ambience was okay, but you could tell that the people there were just people trying to be picked up (professionally too if you understand) and lacking class. For the price being paid, I would have expected much much much better. Really unfortunate experience so if you want something much better in Courchevel, try the restaurants I...
