One of the best restaurants in all of Provence. Many covers yet still a spacious interior and generous individual tables making for a comfortably private experience. Exceptional food prepared to the highest of standards. Superb chefs and an outstanding hostess, Madame Caughlan, who gracefully and seamlessly welcomes all guests whilst performing multiple roles of Maitre D’, hostess, waitress and sommeliere to perfection. Her craft truly is an art. We adored the braised fennel salad and lightly smoked salmon starters and later the outstanding duck breast (perfectly rendered whilst still served pink in the centre) and the freshest of fish of the day (today on our visit being seabream) which tasted sublime. All served with generous portions of vegetables and potatoes artfully sculpted into accompaniments of perfection. From the meat, fish and to the vegetables, each individual ingredient was treated with the utmost respect and attention culminating in an ecstatic experience of epicurean perfection. At no point did we feel rushed; despite being fully booked, no explicit table time was given and we were made to feel truly at home and able to enjoy our leisurely stay in total comfort. Extensive and fantastic wine/aperitif/digestif/liqueur list. Booking in advance recommended. An absolute must if visiting Avignon. We couldn’t...
Read moreWe spent a nice evening dining here. Our hotel concierge managed to get a same day reservation for us for dinner (reservations are a must!). The interior space was intimate, cozy, and not crowded. Our server spoke English very well and was very gracious. Our appetizers of gazpacho and prawns were tasty, although the shrimp was not de-veined. The main dishes were the highlight of the meal: we ordered the chicken and the fish of the day. The chicken was perfectly cooked, moist with just the right amount of herbs coating the crispy skin. The fish was similarly on-point, very flavorful with a lightly browned skin that complements the fish well. The recommended white wine from the Northern Rhône region was fantastic. The dessert course was weaker though, the chocolate creme brulee was a nice concept but mostly was a chocolate mousse that didn't fit particularly well with the caramelized sugar, and the banoffee was a tad over-sweet for my taste.
Overall, it was a very pleasant meal. I would recommend just getting the entree + plat and forgoing the dessert course perhaps. Oh and don't...
Read moreWe knew we were in for a treat when we mentioned we had dinner plans at Fou de Fafa and the responses were "That's a great restaurant. It's great that you have a reservation there." The restaurant did not disappoint. This restaurant is owned and managed by a husband and wife - Antonia. To keep it manageable, they only handle 10 tables a night and with care. The wife manages the front operations, such a gracious host, welcomes you to their restaurant and takes care of you throughout the dinner. She spoke perfect English along with French. She was very knowledgeable in wines. The food was just exquisite. We got a treat from the chef, which was a nice touch. We started off with beef carpaccio. I've never had it before but really enjoyed the flavors of it. Duck breast was amazing. My husband really enjoyed his plate - confit of lamb. To finish it off, I had a panna cotta and my husband had a deep chocolate cake with whopped cream. She introduced my husband to a new aperitif - kir, which he's had at other...
