BATHROOM BATHROOM BATHROOM BATHROOM BATHROOM If you need a toilet. The bathroom is directly inside the photo posted. In the door and down the stairs. OK now that I have your attention... I did not eat, nor did I stay here. I was visiting the abbey after 7p when most everything had closed and was taking photos of the empty streets. I came across a woman who asked if I knew where a bathroom was and I directed her to the main entrance, but she said it had been closed and she desperately needed to find one. I walked ahead and found an English speaking couple staying here at St Pierre and they suggested the bathroom in the basement. I walked back with the woman and another person in my group to find it. My friend entered to use the restroom but the woman took longer to walk to the entrance and before she could enter an older man blocked the door. He asked (in french) what we needed. We explained that she needed to use the bathroom and he asked if we were hotel guests, we answered no and he immediately SLAMMED the door closed. I told the woman to wait at the now locked door for my friend to exit. After a few minutes my friend returned, sure opened the door from inside and I told the woman to go and not say a word to anyone. 🙂 This man was the first time I encountered any unkindness in France. But this man is exactly why people believe that "French are rude" This man showed no compassion and I found it shocking that anyone would be treated like this in a sacred place. My advice to anyone reading this... 1. Use this toilet instead of walking back to the entrance 2. If you are at Mont Saint Michel late and the public toilets have closed, ask for a drink and use the restroom here... But don't order anything. Just use it and leave. 3. Don't order food here. 4. Don't stay overnight here. I will post this in multiple languages for everyone who needs it.

I will try to keep this as short as possible. First of all there is no denying that the location is great. The room is very small but that can be forgiven as it is in an historical 14th-century building. When we entered the room we found it infested with flies and mosquitoes, which eventually left the room as we opened the windows for a few hours while we left the room. There was a safe which was not attached to any furniture or wall, so anyone could just pick it up and leave with it. Shower/bathtub was a hassle to get in as the bathtub is extremely slippery and you must be careful at all times not to fall - some non-slip strips, while not elegant, could prevent a tragic accident. We asked for a double bed but we got 2 beds side by side which would not stay together despite our greatest efforts. We had a fridge in the room but it was not working and they never managed to fix it. Breakfast (18 EU) was, to say the least, a horrible nightmare. When we arrived in the breakfast room, there was no more scrambled eggs, which I brought to the gentleman's attention. He immediately brought scrambled eggs in a tub and poured them in the serving/warming receptacle. So, I helped myself and discovered that the eggs were actually ice cold, I repeat, ice cold. Of course we couldn't eat them. There was no bacon to be had but there was a few sausages of such poor quality and taste that they were inedible. There was some fruit but some of it (peach in picture) was actually rotten, and the available watermelon (picture) was also rotten. We had coffee, tea, 2 soft boiled eggs, and 2 yogurts that morning but no breakfast to speak of. Really poor for 18 Euros a person. Again the location is great and the staff was friendly but too many things went wrong, some of which unforgivable. We cannot recommend this hotel.

This review is related ONLY to the restaurant and not the hotel. The service is not bad, but it's also nothing special. I actually have the feeling that everyone working inside Mont St. Michel doesn't want us (the tourists) there. The location is great, close to the main gate. Now... the food. It's terrible. I hate doing this kind of reviews, being harsh on restaurants because you never know if the staff only had one bad night, or someone is struggling with personal issues. I don't know. But... as paying customers, none of that is our fault and we just want a nice plate of food for a fair price. That all we ask. Unfortunately, that is not what we got. The steak was bland and it had to be the cheapest cut of beef I've seen. It tasted like sadness. 24 euros of sadness. I repeat: twenty four euros of cheap unseasoned beef with frozen fries and half of a tomato with a dodgy pesto on top. The Omelet Saint-Michel is nothing but eggs. Fluffy, no doubt about it. But eggs and nothing else. Not even seasoning. No salt, no pepper, nothing. We're talking about 18.5 euros of fluffy unseasoned eggs. But take just my word for it... have a look at the pictures and see for yourself. The cider was... meh. I've had better. I didn't finish my meal (it's the 2nd time in my life that happens). I got up, paid and left. For what I can see in the comments, this is common in this restaurant... and either the owners are blind to social media (and think everything is fine and dandy), or they just don't care about what the customers think. The money keeps rolling in, right? Bottom line: it's a tourist trap, in my opinion.

Coming to the hotel’s reception there was no one to receive guests, we had to wait 20 min for someone to come, then a lady from the restaurant below comes up, 5 guests are waiting to be checked in, she quickly gives us the key says: « would you like breakfast in the restaurant or in the room » and we say in the restaurant, then she says, « ok come with me » and we follow her out of the hotel and into the city, after going some stairs up, I understood, it is not very convenient to have breakfast in the restaurant, since we are already far, so I asked, in this case, could we have breakfast in the room, since we are far now, she says : « yes no problem », then we come into room, I ask for a baby bed, and it had no pillow and no cover, so I had to call to get someone to bring, and they asked me to please check myself in the closets first, I said I did that, so then finally someone came with the cover. Next day we go to make check out, and I see my husband is arguing with the lady at the counter, what is going on?, he tells me she is charging extra for thé breakfast, we explained that the lady who received us, asked if we wanted the breakfast in the restaurant or in the room, as if we already ordered it, and did not say, by the way it is not included on your fee…, so that is something to learn from, always ask if what they are offering to you is or not included, because you may get a surprise if you don’t ! €17 per person, for a orange juice (not freshly pressed), tea, one croissant, a baguette that I do not recommend and some airplanes style jam and butter. Recommend you breakfast outside… The lady at the counter was Kristel, the manager, I recommend her and the hotel owner to really try to change their attitudes of thinking that they are doing one a favor by receiving one in their hotel, but to improve their service by following the principal that everyone in the service business (like a hotel is) knows: « The client is always right » and you listen kindly what they are trying to tell you, because in their experience there is something for you learn and improve in your...

My family of five couples enjoyed a two night stay at the Auberge Saint-Pierre. I would recommend asking for the annex rooms. They are a bit of a climb but are wonderfully quaint and clean. I CANNOT recommend the hotels restaurant for any meal. We are a family of ten adults so I understand the difficulty of seating, but you would think a restaurant would see the euros that would be spent by ten Americans on vacation. We made two attempts to eat with them once for dinner and once for lunch. On both occasions the service was non-existent. As Americans we were fully aware that meals in France are an event and there is no such thing as "fast food". We were not looking for that. What we did not expect was to be ignored. On both occasions multiple tables that were seated well after us were served and gone before we received our drinks let alone our food. Half the food we finally received for our dinner meal was cold upon arrival. At our lunch seating after ordering drinks that never came four of our party left the restaurant. One glass of red wine came 40 minutes after our seating, we told the waiter the person who had ordered the wine had left. The waiter in good English said, "Well someone will have to pay for this." Ten minutes later the manager came to our table to enquire if all was well. We told him that we had been there for just under an hour and had not had our food order taken. We had even asked the waiter who brought the wine if we could order our food and he pointed to a young lady and walked away. The manager did try to help and started to take our food orders. We never did get the rest of our wine/drink orders. We paid our bill, did leave a 5% tip, we did not want to be seen as bad Americans. If you are looking for a GREAT meal and wonderful service on Mont St. Michel make a bee-line for the Hotel du Guesclin restaurant. You will be treated to wonderful friendly service and great food with an wonderful view of the bay. We wish we would have eaten our first dinner on the Mont with them, we would not have gone...
