I'd spotted this place in the afternoon and thought it looked like a good place for a drink, and a quick look at the menu aroused my interest, too.

So, we returned about 6pm, sat down outside, and asked the patron what white wine he had by the glass. He reeled off a few, and I opted for a glass of Rully for me and a Marsannay for my partner. 'Good choice', says he, and within three minutes he was back with the wine (which he poured in front of us) and a large container of olive tapenade and a plate of toast. And a big smile on his face. At the next table, drinking, were a few local restaurant chefs....always a good sign.

I liked his style so much that I took a decision on the spot to eat there, and asked if he had a table about 7:30. Not a problem. So, after several glasses of his very drinkable wines, we walked into the back of the establishment which, unlike the 'front of house' had chic, modern decor, great lighting, and air conditioning, under a high conservatory roof. But, we were the only customers and I began to wonder if my gut feel had been right. Within half an hour, however, every single table was full, and the patron plus one other waiter were rushing around pouring wine, bringing bread, serving food. Quite how they managed to do all this for about 30 covers is quite beyond me, but they did -- and with minimum delay.

And then, the food arrived. Every ingredient carefully sourced, fresh as it comes, and impeccably prepared and presented. I spoke the next evening to the patron and he explained the passion he and his chef (also his nephew) have for food and wine, and how they carefully choose local suppliers for everything they serve. I had tempura frog legs to start, followed by a perfect Charolais steak with mouthwatering fried potatoes, while my partner opted for snails as an entree and a delicious pork knuckle and penne stew as a main. And we managed to find room for a couple of delectable desserts. All accompanied by a bottle of most agreeable Saint-Aubin premier cru 'Le Charmois'.

Wow, what an experience! And the place all so low key and unassuming. Not even a web site.

Places like this restore my faith in restauranteurs and chefs. If you are in Beaune, eschew the fancy places, the touristy traps on the main square, the high profile up-themselves joints and get yourself along to La Part des Anges. But don't forget to secure a reservation! You...

Malheureusement, cela a gâché l'image globale.

Not sure why the restaurant wasn’t full because this might’ve been the best meal we had in burgundy. After trying so many restaurants that were full, we went to La Part des Anges and boy did we make the right decision! Not only was there much more choices on the menu but everything was so delicious, generous and homemade. I don’t think I’ve ever eaten as much as I’ve eaten that night! The gambas and risotto was our favourite with the mushroom soup as a starter. 100%...

We went for a pre dinner drink then returned the next night for the same and stayed for dinner. The service was excellent and friendly and the oeufs meurette and boeuf Bourguinonne were excellent. Waiter was very engaging and took time to explain all the dishes as menu was en francais. In addition we were a few hundred meters away and waiter came running up to us with iPhone which we had left behind.

Stopped for a glass of wine and people watching before dinner. Friendly & helpful server who poured a couple tastes of different vintages before selecting a glass. Ask to see the "Wine Bible," it's unbelievable! Frequented by locals stopping by for drinks and conversation. Just on the edge of the highly tourist-filled center of Beaune. Unpretentious and comfortable atmosphere.
