It’s unfortunate we didn’t get a chance to try the food before we were berated on our way out by the chef…
Let me start by saying me and my family were very interested in trying this restaurant per the stellar reviews we had seen on the food. We arrive and they kindly seated us at a table with no reservation (place was almost empty to be fair). My father has a throat condition and started having a bad cough that he had to emergency step outside for a minute. Unfortunately he wasn’t feeling better when he came back in so we politely told the waiter we had to leave. Mind you, we hadn’t ordered anything; they had just brought out these tiny bites right before we let the waiter know we couldn’t stay.
On our way out, my father goes up to the waiters who had been speaking to the chef (presumably about us) and let them know we had to leave. He did this as common courtesy instead of just disappearing. As we’re getting our jackets on, the chef yells “NOT COOL, NOT COOL” at us, in a disapproving manner. My father tries to explain its because of his throat (with an evident lack of voice to speak well) and the chef continued yelling in front of the whole restaurant. It seemed like he was personally insulted by us having to leave. We were confused more than anything, but continued to leave.
As we’re outside the restaurant after this bizarre experience, the chef angrily comes out the door and tells us that the menu is outside for us to look at. I think he was implying we decided we weren’t into the food while in the restaurant. My dad responded emphatically that it was his throat that was the issue and to get his story straight, and it seemed like the chef finally understand but couldn’t save face by this point so he just said nothing and went back in.
Frankly we were all appalled at this man’s behavior; he clearly wasn’t satisfied by us leaving and had to berate us again once we were outside. Big ego and an embarrasing example of a man. Eat...
Read moreCheval Noir in Beaune is nothing short of a culinary masterpiece. From the moment we stepped in, the warm ambiance and attentive service set the stage for an unforgettable dining experience. The menu showcases the best of Burgundy’s rich culinary heritage, but two dishes stood out above the rest.
The Eggs Meursault were a revelation. Perfectly cooked, the eggs were creamy and rich, with the exquisite Meursault wine sauce elevating the dish to new heights. Each bite was a harmonious blend of flavors that lingered long after the plate was cleared.
Equally impressive was the Crunchy Escargot. A delightful twist on a classic, the escargot was perfectly tender, encased in a crispy shell that added the perfect textural contrast. The flavors were bold yet balanced, making it a dish that’s hard to forget.
Cheval Noir is a must-visit for anyone in Beaune, whether you're a local or a visitor. It’s a restaurant that takes pride in its ingredients and execution, delivering a dining experience that is both refined and...
Read moreWe had a really nice meal here! We had the 4 course set menu with 3 wines paired set menu. 2 appetizers were also provided for that we didn't expect or directly pay for as well which was a nice touch. Staff were super friendly and the food with the wine pairings was delicious! Well presented as well and also in decent enough portions that we were quite full by the end of the night. The escargots were my personal favourite and I loved the cheeses even though they lacked a bit in presentation. It is probably more on the pricey side (total cost was €150 for 2 people), but we had decided to treat ourselves. Booking is probably advisable (we didn't, but we're lucky enough to get a table). Would...
