I usually have a rule of avoiding tourist trap restaurants, but found myself in a weak moment with my family: a Monday night in Beaune when most restaurants are closed, a table came up and we thought “lucky us”. How bad could it be? Local dishes, so surely they know what they are doing? So wrong: sloppy, soupy oeufs en meurette, a steak ordered medium which was decidedly “bien-cuit” and a kids chicken nuggets dish which was just from a frozen packet. The chicken nuggets actually ended up my saviour as my main course took over an hour to turn up and my 3 year old gave up on them. And the wine glasses weren’t clean, but asking for a new one invited a flouncing response from the waiter as if I was being difficult I didn’t want to drink via a lipstick stain. In fact, the whole experience was made worse by the rude attitude of the staff who couldn’t care less what experience the customers were having- the superiority of a tourist trap restaurant which knows they can serve terrible food at high prices with complete disdain but still be fully booked because they are on a nice corner in the centre of the old town. Please, don’t have a weak moment like I did- get some supermarket pasta or takeaway chips if all else fails on a summer...
Read moreUne belle surprise ♥️😳❗️✨ Often brasseries at the heart of touristic places tend to offer the overpriced / less impressive dishes but at this restaurant the price was really correct and plates were delicious with food quantity. We ordered -Plat du jour (it was Parmentier de canard and apple crumble for desert) €14.5 😳❗️ -Menu bourguignons (escargot was an appetiser, bœuf bourguignon was a main plate and pain d’épice with ice cream and chocolate cake with cassis sauce was a dessert 🍨♥️🇫🇷) €26.5
All were very tasty and we were lucky enough to be able to sit outside at the terrace with beautiful sunshine. The view of Hospice of Beaune was wonderful ☺️
If you find a nice sunny table available, I would recommend running there to...
Read moreDropped in for a glass of wine and a beer. We were 'mugged' by the waiter and upsold on both items - desperate to avoid providing us with a price list he advised my it was 'all in his head'. I did ask subsequently for the price list and noted that items provided were even dearer on the bill than specified on the menu. I note that other reviews have stated that this is apparently a 'terrace' charge - great. The final straw was, that on payment, the waiter could not be bothered to acknowledge us as humans - I honestly could not believe how rude he was staring off into the mid distance as he processed our...
