JOIA by Pizzeria Des Moulins — Restaurant in Bonneville

The waiter was rushing us at the beginning, and then tried to play it cool, half of us were on time but the other half came a bit later. We have two Celiac's in the group but when they put down one gluten free pizza, and then the gluten pizza, they did not care about potential cross contamination with the way they placed the pizzas on the tables. So if you are gluten free because of Celiac's, honestly I don't trust the waiter(s) here anymore! Not only that, the tables were actually slanted and because of that a glass of red wine fell down. They cleaned it up but did not offer to give another one, and didn't also ask if they can quickly fix the table so it should be no more slanted. They did none of that! And what's more, actually one of us ordered a pizza that normally doesn't come with nduja, asked for nduja, they didn't bring the pizza with nduja, BUT it WAS on the bill, the nduja extra, so then we tried to tell the waiter that that's wrong. Here is how the waiter reacted. First he said "haha you don't know what nduja is, it was on there". We cook with nduja at home all the time.. then he said "I make no mistake, never, and the one preparing the pizza, she makes no mistake, never". However we literally saw there was no nduja on the pizza. We didn't want to make a big deal out of it but his reaction was completely out of line, I haven't had this bad service since years! So much ego in this waiter, not hospitable at all, doesn't know the basics of good service. We did have a good time besides that, the atmosphere...

1 star is for the food only as our experience wasn’t pleasant at all. (We are a family of 4 adults and 1 child) We arrived to the restaurant 5 minutes before they opened and we were told to wait until they open but we didn’t mind at all. 2 minutes later a family came and they were immediately seated and welcomed unlike us. I then spoke to them and they allowed us to be seated and we were greeted with an attitude and eye roll from another waiter when she saw which table we are seated at (mind you it was the last table in the corner of the restaurant). we also repeated again that we are 4 adults and 1 child even though it says in the booking and we also mentioned when we arrived at the restaurant. 10 minutes in after ordering the waiter comes and asks us if we could move (in a rude way) because she wants to make use of the extra space on our table (even though we’ve already repeatedly said how many people we are and they seated us on the 6 seater table with their own satisfaction). We can clearly notice how bad we were served from in comparison with other people eating at the restaurant. And we are guessing it’s because we are “arab” tourists. We’re 5 days into our trip and we haven’t experienced any bad service until we ate at this restaurant. At least for the amount we paid for the food, we expect to be served respectfully just like others.

Despite the manager’s reaction to the review, it is safe to say that this pizzeria offered one of the poorest experiences we had eating out in chamonix - both for the quality of the food and unhelpful and unprofessional service. The waiter had a terrible attitude - unhelpful, ungracious and downright rude and this was not must different to that of the so called manager, who was charmless. We asked for a customisation so that half of one pizza could be free of toppings but apparently this was too difficult for the chef/against restaurant policy (most restaurants that are decent have flexibility in their policies!). We didn’t order very much in addition after the rude rejection of our request to customise the pizza, despite wanting to get some main course salads. The food was generally below average. For example the tagliatelle was soggy and left mostly uneaten. The bill was incorrect and there was no apology for overcharging us, just a new bill placed roughly down on the table. The decor was unpleasant - matching the server - and the general sense was that the business is more interested in taking your money than giving you a good experience. Definitely would not recommend unless you are unable to find a table anywhere else in the region. Nearly ruined our evening and our memories...
