I went with my friends and one of them ordered a risotto with supposedly "truffle" and I ordered some meat. They brought her macaroni with some very strange toppings, then my "meat" tasted like almost nothing, also a friend ordered a very expensive wagyu cooked cut and they brought it extremely raw, because of this she ended up with a stomach ache and diahrrea not long after. On the other hand, it was a wait of more than an hour and a half and we made it clear to the waitress that the bus we were on was waiting for us and she kept telling us it was almost ready when the truth was it would take another half hour. There were only two people working and the person cooking had no empathy and took all the time in the world without bringing out the food. At the end, our bus had left us and we had to catch a train. I must admit that the waitress was very kind and helpful to us, but we were still horribly affected by these circumstances while the food and price were definately not worth it.
THIS MESSAGE IS AFTER THE RESTAURANT RESPONDED: With all due respect, we don't believe we had any obligation to notify as customers that we had a bus waiting for us, much less to share personal information to justify a wait that, frankly, was excessive. Beyond the context, no restaurant should take more than an hour to serve a dish, especially meat. What's truly surprising is not only the delay, which was ultimately resolved, but the appalling quality of the food: bland, poorly presented, and in some cases undercooked. They didn't say a word about that in their response.
Instead of taking responsibility, they respond with sarcasm and insinuations, which we find disrespectful and highly unprofessional on the part of an establishment that should be focusing on improving the customer experience, not attacking them. And thank you for recommending McDonald's. At the end of the day, it would be a better option—faster, more responsive to customers, and...
Read moreÔ Garde Manger falls in the category of “most marvellous establishments”, a rare beast indeed! The staff clearly love what they do, suggesting wines - and what wines! From humble, crisp, floral locals to top-notch burgundies (Chambertin, anyone?) - tailored to the customer’s preferences and budget, explaining menu items to less knowledgeable customers with no condescension whatsoever, and chit-chatting with customers without losing a beat. No reservations makes it a perfect spot to drop in, the charcuterie boards are bountiful, the beef and veal mains are as copious as they’re flavourful, toothsome, savoury, expertly prepared. Tourte de gibier us a worthy splurge; no accompanying sauce is needed because it’s the juiciest meat pie you’re ever likely to eat. To finish with a flourish, have a Chartreuse elexir. It leaves the regular green one in the dust. If a glass of wine, especially champagne, and a nibble are all you want, go to this pearl of a restaurant’s wine merchant business across the street, Vin sur Vin (pun on 20/20). They’ll run the food across the street to accompany your tipple. These establishments are Chamonix musts, spots you want to keep to yourself (so you always find a spot) but have to talk about to ensure they last for...
Read moreOur favourite place in Chamonix by far. If you appreciate top quality meat cooked to perfection, fine French dishes and a huge selection of fine wine then this is the place. We spent the whole month of March 2023 in Chamonix and had loads of friends come to visit who we always took here. The staff were so kind and knowledgeable about wine and the food and all their recommendations were spot on. Matilda always welcomed us back and made us feel so at home. All of the staff were lovely. The food was out of this world and so was the wine. Their daily specials were always incredible so always go for them. The meat was served to perfection. Great place for sharing dishes. We saw this place by chance (I actually smelt the meat when I was walking down the side of the restaurant) and thought it looked cozy and delicious and we weren't disappointed. Everyone we took there loved it. A real gem of a place. if you're ever passing and see that they have a spare space don't hesitate to grab it as it's walk in only which is refreshing for Chamonix as a lot of places you need to book ahead to go zzz! It's such a relaxed atmosphere. They even welcomed our dog which was handy! Very good value for the quality that they offer. See...
